Music video: “People Like Us” from Kelly Clarkson

Great song, great vocals by the original American Idol winner, Kelly Clarkson. Love the message.

This will be a hit. Trust me.

Check it out on iTunes.

Rumor has it Kelly is headed back to American Idol as a judge next season with Jennifer Hudson and possibly Adam Lambert or Clay Aiken. Jen’s the only one confirmed, thus far. We’ll see.

Alison Moyet – ‘the minutes’

From the Huffington Post we get word that Alison Moyet is back with her first album – ‘the minutes’ – in 6 years:

‘the minutes’ was produced by Guy Sigsworth, known for his work with Madonna, Goldie, Robyn and Madonna, and gives proper foundation for Alison Moyet’s unique, powerful, low voice.

“I avoided listening to anything during the process of writing and recording this album, choosing instead to be lead by my own melodic voice, the one I now find myself with 30-years-in”, says Alison. “Guy Sigsworth returns me to a programmer’s world and marries it with perfect musicality. I have been waiting for him. We have made an album mindless of industry mores that apply to middle-aged women and have shunned all talk of audiences, demographics and advert jazz covers. This has easily been my happiest studio experience.”

‘the minutes’ should be available on June 11th on iTunes USA.  In the meantime, check out her official site where you can stream the new music by clicking here.

Mariah Carey releases new single “#Beautiful” featuring Miguel

Mariah’s new song – “#Beautiful” – has a vintage, retro-feel backtrack. And yes, the hashtag is part of the title. Check it out.

The video will be debuted on Wednesday’s American Idol where she is a judge.

Does anyone still watch American Idol? Not being snarky, just asking as I stopped a few years ago. Felt like the fad had passed.

Leave a comment if you love AI or if you’re like me and let it go. I’m curious.

Robert Brown, former lead singer of Bearforce1, releases new track remixed by Cahill

New from Robert Brown, the former lead singer of Bearforce1, comes this video “Love In The Shadows” remixed by world famous Cahill.

Bearforce1 was a dance music band, in the campy style of Village People, from the Netherlands with four gay members. At a time when smooth boy band images were the norm, Bearforce1 featured furry, fun, masc bears. Bearforce1 was unapologetic about showing-off hairy, bearded band members shaking their moneymakers with their shirts off.

After disbanding in 2009, Brown decided to set out on a solo career.

Now known as Circuit21, Brown and company’s new album EVENTUALLY is set to be released this summer.

Thoughts? Yay or nay? Leave a comment below.

Graphic violence, crucifixion, depicted in new music video for Indochine’s “College Boy”

A new music video by gay Quebecois director Xavier Dolan for the popular French rock band Indochine features the crucifixion and graphic shooting of a bullied student at a Catholic school.

In the video, a bullied teenage boy is taunted in the hallways of the school before being pursued, thrown down stairs, kicked and pissed on, then nailed to a cross and shot several times by his classmates while others shoot the scene on their mobile phones.

The video has been banned during daytime viewing hours in France.

While many find the images shocking, the video is also finding much support in social media. From the Local:

Radio and TV host Emilie Mazoyer summed up the view of many Twitter users, saying: “Some people find Indochine’s music video ‘violent.’ Yes, it does turn your stomach for six minutes. But bullied students go through that 300 days a year. Imagine that.”

Warning: graphic violence depicted

Legendary music producer Phil Ramone dead at 72

From CNN: Music producer and engineer Phil Ramone, winner of 14 Grammys and a technical innovator, died Saturday morning in a New York hospital, his son Matt told CNN.

His collaboration credits are a Who’s Who of the music industry: Olivia Newton-John, Burt Bacharach, Bono, Ray Charles, Bob Dylan, Aretha Franklin, Quincy Jones, Madonna, Paul McCartney, Paul Simon, Frank Sinatra and Stevie Wonder, just to name a few.

“Our industry has lost an immense talent and a true visionary and genius,” said Neil Portnow, president of The Recording Academy, which had given him a Technical Grammy for his lifetime of innovative contributions to music.

Artists described Ramone, 72, with superlatives.

From Bette Midler: “Phil Ramone, a giant in the recording world; kind beyond words. Goodbye..”

From Elaine Paige: “Such devastating news has just reached me of the passing of the great Phil Ramone. I feel really sad at this loss.”

“This is so shocking. I just performed for his tribute in December,” Aretha Franklin said in a statment. “Truly one of the great names in music has gone on, but the melodies will remain.”

Said Billy Joel: “I always thought of Phil Ramone as the most talented guy in my band…. The music world lost a giant today.”
Ramone made innovations to the compact discs and surround sound technologies, Portnow said.

Ramone’s collaboration with Ray Charles, Billy Joel and Paul Simon won a total of three Album Of The Year awards, and Ramone won Producer Of The Year (Non Classical) in 1980, The Recording Academy said.
