New Music: Jenny Lewis “Just One of the Guys”

Six years since her last solo album, Jenny Lewis will debut The Voyager later this month.

Not only did she take on the task of recording the new album, she directed the music video for the first single – “Just One Of The Guys.”

She certainly knows what she’s doing when it comes to casting. Check out her back-up band here: Hollywood A-listers Anne Hathaway, Kristen Stewart and Brie Larson.

The new album debuts July 29th.  More info on Jenny at her official website here.

New Music: Judah Gavra “Stay”

Judah Gavra’s new single “Stay”

Hottie Judah Gavra dropped his new single “Stay” last month just in time to share with lucky NYC audiences at the NYC Pride Rally 2014 where Judah shared the Main Stage with artists & celebs like Demi Lovato, Michelle Visage, Susan Sarandon, Laverne Cox and more.

Clearly he’s easy on the ears and eyes… 🙂

In March 2013, the hunky Judah competed in Eurovision Israel (Kdam Eurovision) with his song “We’re Beautiful” (see music video below) and received rave reviews for his performance. Judah made it to the 4th after becoming the audience’s favorite.

After graduating from The American Musical and Dramatic Academy in New York City, he has performed in concerts all over the world, appearing on some of the most prestigious stages in the world such as Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center and BB Kings.

You can listen and download the new single “Stay” on iTunes.  I hear shooting just wrapped for the new video, which looks like it will see a release date some time in September, but you check out his first video – for “We’re Beautiful (Tonight)” – below.

Grammy Museum to unveil new exhibition “Donna Summer: Four Seasons of Love”

Fans of classic 70s and 80s pop/rock/dance music – mark your calendars!

On July 2, 2014, The GRAMMY Museum will unveil its latest temporary exhibition Donna Summer: Four Seasons of Love.

Located on the Museum’s fourth floor, the exhibition will offer visitors a behind-the-scenes look at the iconic career of 5-time Grammy Award-winner Donna Summer. This will be the first exhibition highlighting the career of the legendary “Queen of Disco.”

“Donna Summer galvanized a diverse group of music fans and she was able to give credibility to a genre of music that had many skeptics,” said GRAMMY Museum executive director Bob Santelli. “We are honored to tell her story and help demonstrate why Donna Summer is not only the undisputed ‘Queen of Disco,’” but also one of the most successful female artists of all time.”

On display through Spring 2015, the exhibit, (produced by client relations rep Brian Edwards and Summer’s son-in-law Rick Dohler) will feature gowns, costumes, set design sketches, handwritten lyrics and notes, rare and never-before-seen photos, hand-painted pieces from Summer’s Fine Arts Collection and much more from the Donna Summer estate.

With a career that spanned decades and musical genres, Donna Summer holds the record for most consecutive double albums to hit #1 on the Billboard charts (3) and first female to have four #1 singles in a 12 month period; three as a solo artist and one as a duo with Barbra Streisand.

Donna Summer was the first artist to win the Grammy Award for Best Rock Vocal Performance, Female (1979, “Hot Stuff”) as well as the first-ever recipient of the Grammy Award for Best Dance Recording (1997, “Carry On”).

In 2004, she became one of the first inductees, as both an Artist Inductee and a Record Inductee into the Dance Music Hall of Fame in New York City.

Most recently, Summer was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame on April 18, 2013, less than a year after her death on May 17, 2012.

The GRAMMY Museum features 30,000 square feet of interactive and multimedia exhibits located within L.A. LIVE, the downtown Los Angeles sports, entertainment and residential district.

Song of the day: “Coming Around Again”

This song, one of my favorites, came on this morning in my “getting ready for rehearsal” music shuffle.

Carly Simon wrote the song for her album of the same name that served as something of a comeback in 1987.

The lyrics felt especially appropriate as I revisit and stage A Chorus Line here at Sacramento Music Circus. This version of A Chorus Line, day by day, is becoming a new thing – deconstructed, as we keep referring to it. The original intent, but with a new shape, form and flavor.

Getting out of your head, getting away from what you’ve always done can lead to finding that an old friend still has a resonant message, years later.

“I know nothing stays the same, but if you’re willing to play the game, it’s coming around again.”

New music: Richard Marx “Whatever We Started”

New music video for Richard Marx’ newest – “Whatever We Started” – off his new album, ‘Beautiful Goodbye,’ coming July 2014.

Check it out now on iTunes and Amazon.

I’ve always been a fan of his music.  I don’t know him, but hubby Michael has met him several times socially and says he’s a prince.

New music: Eric Himan “Everything To You”

Out singer/songwriter (and Randy Report favorite) Eric Himan just released his new single and music video “Everything To You,” and by everything he means it.

Himan plays doctor, construction worker, party animal, football ref, chef – you name it, Himan brings it.

Great song from a terrific artist.

Available on iTunes and other digital download sites.

Check Eric out on his official site here.
