Comedy duo Ylvis scores major label deal after viral success of “The Fox”

“What does the fox say?” Well, now it says “cha-ching!”

After over 43 million views of their music video “The Fox” on YouTube, the comedy duo Ylvis has secured a major label deal in here the US, along with a LOT of exposure.

From the Hollywood Reporter:

The duo also confirmed that, on the heels of the song’s runaway success, Warner Music has signed them to a worldwide deal.

A source with knowledge of the negotiations says the label coughed up “huge” money to lock down the act following its success on YouTube. The label is presently promoting the single, helmed by Swedish producing team Stargate, to Top 40 radio in the States. And perhaps in a first showing of its recently announced partnership with radio giant Clear Channel, secured a slot for Ylvis on the coveted bill only one day ahead of the fest’s Friday start.

The pair flew into Vegas from Los Angeles on Friday afternoon following an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. They’ll next appear on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon on Oct. 9.

Still, Bard told THR, for Ylvis, it’s laughs first, music second: β€œWe’re comedians. And we like to sing.”

I’ve personally found the video fascinating from the day it debuted. It reaches back to the fun days of the 1980s for music videos when concept was everything.  You start out thinking “tribal” or “edgy”… And then you start laughing.

If you haven’t see the video yet, watch below.

New music video: Ricky Martin “Come With Me”

I’ve been listening to this all summer. Finally, the official music video. I love that the video is fairly simple in terms of focusing on Ricky Martin, but has pace and dynamics in terms of editing.

Over 300,000 views in less than a day.

p.s. Ricky is still uber-handsome to look at πŸ™‚

Whoo-hoo! Go Ricky!

Friday chill music – Olivia Newton-John “Help Me To Heal”

A few years ago, Olivia Newton-John re-examined and “renewed” her excellent CD “Grace and Gratitude” in a new version with some additional tracks.

One of the highlights of the “renewed” G&G was this track – Help Me To Heal. I think it’s gorgeous.

There wasn’t a music video to go with the song, so I asked Olivia if I could take some “behind the scenes” footage shot during the creation of the album and create a video. I was thrilled when she said ‘yes.’

So the above is something I made for the release of “Grace and Gratitude Renewed.”

The album itself is very special to me. Not only did it become the soundtrack for my own cancer journey, but Olivia honored me by asking me to help stage a special concert of the album outside Philadelphia.

Love the music. Love the message.

Music video: Cheyenne Jackson “Don’t Look At Me”

Cheyenne’s new video, “Don’t Look At Me,” drops today.

The video may be a bit deep for me, but Cheyenne’s performance and vocals are great.

The track is from his upcoming CD “I’m Blue, Skies” which will be released June 25th.
