David Bowie and Mick Jagger “Dancing In The Streets” video without music

Back in the 80s, MTV was new, cool and wide open – not only in terms of creativity but air time. Twenty-four hours a day had to be filled with music video content. And there was some of everything.

Mario Wienerroither’s ‘Musicless Musicvideo‘ series has taken to task the 1985 cover of “Dancing In The Streets” done by Mick Jagger and David Bowie.

Apparently, music critics were not overly fond of the recording and felt it was an overly-produced miss-mash of sound.  And then came the music video, that looking back now, we can see really was pretty slapped together.  Not to be uber-criticized as the project was part of Live Aid and helped raise millions for charity.  The recording hit #2 in the US.

Mario’s “Musicless” version revisits the music video, but with the music stripped out which makes it all really kind of funny. Take a look at the results.

Music: Melissa Etheridge “Uprising of Love’

https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/uprising-of-love/id798833447?i=798833476

Via press release: The video delivers a powerful message to create awareness about the many countries around the world where LGBT people are facing harassment, arrest, violence, and in some cases, death.

The new music video, produced and directed by creative agency Wondros, is a montage of peaceful Russian LGBT rallies and protests, and true affection of couples in love.

Etheridge originally wrote the song in response to the systematic discrimination of the Russian LGBT community.

In December, Etheridge co-founded a coalition of celebrities and entertainment executives also called Uprising of Love, in support of the safety and dignity of LGBT Russians.

100% of proceeds from the single will be donated to the Russia Freedom Fund, which is one of the only ways to make immediate and direct financial contributions to LGBT activists in Russia.

Matt Goss drops his new video – “I Do”

Matt Goss’ debut EP features the romantic, “I Do.” The song is described by Matt as the perfect proposal song that is as inclusive as it is romantic.

Other tracks include “Mustang,” “Lovely Las Vegas,” and “There’s Nothing Like This,” all of which will appear on Goss’ full-length album, Life You Imagine in the spring of 2014.

Often described as a “modern throwback,” Goss and producer Ron Fair spent two years meticulously recording with a sixteen-piece brass section and thirty-two strings, prompting Billboard Magazine to applaud its “mix of big band swing and contemporary-sounding soul that pays respectful homage to the Rat Pack era.”

“I want my music to sound big. I’m inspired by Queen and Sinatra, Elvis and Bowie because there was never anything understated about their music,” says Matt. “I want to create as much energy, glamour, and drama as I can.”

Goss is a huge hit in Las Vegas headlining his own show at Caesars Palace.  And you can see the appeal in this video.  Check out his  EP I Do on iTunes.

Music video: “Glacier” by John Grant

Via press release:

John Grant is proud to share his unflinching and moving new video for “Glacier,” off his 2013 album Pale Green Ghosts.

The song’s lyrics tackle the experience of suffering from struggles associated with homophobia (John is publicly out and HIV positive) — but they are universal in how they tackle all types of oppression — and are ultimately uplifting and empowering.

The video juxtaposes these themes with footage from various moments in LGBT history. From news footage during WWII and Wizard of Oz, all the way through Stonewall and Harvey Milk, culminating with the repeal of Don’t Ask Don’t Tell, the legalization of gay marriage, and Blue Is The Warmest Color.

Music video: Cut Copy’s “Free Your Mind” featuring naked Alexander Skarsgard

OUT interviews Cut Copy bassist Ben Browning on Alexander Skarsgard’s involvement in making the video:

So let’s talk about the video for the album’s first single, also titled “Free Your Mind.” How’d you manage to bag Alexander Skarsgard for it?

We were really lucky. We met him in Brazil three years ago. We were playing there, and he’s a fan. We didn’t know that. We were playing and just saw this dude right upfront going crazy over our songs, and afterwards we wanted to meet him. He came backstage, and we ended up hanging out. We went to some house party in Rio and ended up talking about music and film all night. Then fast-forward two years later, and we’re making the first video for this album and the director said, “Oh, you know, you guys are friends with Skarsgard, so why don’t you ask him if he will be in the video?” And we thought there was no way he’d be able to do it. But we asked him and he was really up for it. We went to L.A. to shoot it, and he had a day off to do it. We did it in one day.

And, of course, because he’s Alexander Skarsgard, he had to get naked for it. Was that his idea or the director’s?

I think he was happy to do whatever was needed, and I think he and the director sort of collaborated on what would go where and how he would dress. He’s got that six pack and everything. He’s got to put it to use.

New music video: From Ylvis “Massachusetts”

From Ylvis, who brought us the fab viral video “What Does The Fox Say?” we now get “Massachusetts.” A huge, sprawling goulash of pop music styles in a video that COULD be a tourism ad (if it weren’t for some questionable lyrics).

Poking fun at the first US state to legalize marriage equality, it’s sure to be another huge hit for Ylvis.

Perhaps NSFW unless you use earphones.

I laughed. I love these guys. Clever and they can find a catchy hook.

New music video: “Pupusa” by Hi Fashion

The latest from electro-pop duo Hi Fashion, who just debuted their new video “Pupusa” on MTV Hive.

MTV described the video as a “pleasantly satisfying explosion of weirdassery” that rivals the videos of Die Antwood and Lady Gaga.

The band have also been featured by the likes of Paper Mag, New Now Next, Perez Hilton, not to mention a recent pick as one of LA’s top breakthrough acts for 2013 by Time Out Los Angeles.

I think it’s kind of funny as a throwback to the “anything goes” days of music videos in the 1980s.

Does this look like the next Gaga? Or “What Does The Fox Say?”

What do you think?
