Marriage proposal flashmob at gay friendly Home Depot

Dustin thought he was going to the (gay-friendly) Home Depot to help his roommate chose some lighting for a party.

Instead, he was taken to the lumber aisle (you know what they keep there!) where a mob of his friends/family helped his boyfriend propose to the song “Somebody Loves You” by Betty Who.

Sailor proposes to boyfriend upon return from 6 month deployment

Sweet picture.

Via USA Today:

A Navy sailor returning from a six-month deployment emerged from his submarine, dropped to one knee and proposed to his boyfriend during the homecoming celebration in Connecticut for USS New Mexico.

About 200 people were gathered at the dock of the Naval Submarine Base New London where Machinist’s Mate Jerrel Revels proposed to Dylan Kirchner. Kirchner said he had thought about getting married but the proposal Monday came as a surprise.

“I didn’t really care everybody was around. It felt just like the two of us,” Kirchner told The Day of New London.

Longtime Las Vegas headliner Frank Marino gets engaged LIVE onstage

This past Tuesday, the Las Vegas Strip saw a big, fabulous, gay marriage proposal in front of an audience of hundreds when ‘Divas Las Vegas’ performer Frank Marino received a wedding proposal from his BF of almost 20 years, Alex Schechter, the vice president of SPI Entertainment.

After a little “negotiating” on the percentages, Frank said ‘yes.’

Congratulations to the happy couple!

I love marriage proposals 🙂

As DOMA falls, Utah state Senator proposes to longtime boyfriend

Utah State Senator Jim Dabakis

An openly gay Utah state senator didn’t just give a speech at a party celebrating two Supreme Court victories for gay rights – he took to the stage to propose to his longtime boyfriend.

Democratic state Sen. Jim Dabakis popped the question to partner Stephen Justesen Wednesday at a rainbow flag-draped rally at Salt Lake City’s Club Sound. The two met 26 years ago.

“Stephen, after all these years, will you marry me?” Dabakis said over the whoops of an approving crowd.

Dabakis, founding chair of the Utah Pride Center, became the first openly gay person to lead a state party in Utah.

He opened by saying the gay marriage issue was “very deeply, deeply personal” for him, and introduced the crowd to “a wonderful man” he met nearly three decades ago.

That’s when Dabakis pulled out a ring he said he’d purchased that day and put it on Justensen’s finger.

Justesen told the crowd Dabakis had given him a different ring years ago that he still wears, but “this is super fantastic to have another one.”

Dabakis told The Salt Lake Tribune the proposal was a spur-of-the-moment decision and a wedding date hasn’t been set.

Proposal of the day: Shaun’s surprise proposal to Michael

From Shaun Aukland: “On April 22 2013, I invited Michael to lunch at the Google office. He had no idea I would be asking him to marry me. Or that hundreds of people were in on it.

“We are a binational couple, separated for the last two years, on and off, without the ability to sponsor Michael for citizenship in the United States because of the Defense of Marriage Act. I flew to London for one of our regular trips and secretly to propose to Michael, in hopes that he’ll be able to finally join me permanently in the US after the Supreme Court decision.

“Five minutes before the proposal, all of the TV screens in the cafe showed a timer countdown. At about 10 seconds, Michael remarked “its really busy in here. also, what is that timer”. Then the video starts.”

Congratulations to the happy couple!

Rock band Garbage pauses concert for same-sex marriage proposal

Marriage proposals get me every time. Every time.

Shirley Manson and Garbage arranged for Detroit fan Scott Sauter to propose to his boyfriend Domenick Viviano on stage at their concert on Saturday night.

As the crowd goes wild you can hear Dominic shouting an emphatic “Yes! Yes!”

Garbage then dedicated the song “Vow” to Dominic and Scott.

Currently, Michigan has a constitutional ban on same-sex marriage but a judge has delayed ruling on a a challenge to that law until after the Supreme Court rules on marriage equality.

I want to post another view of the proposal because I want you to get a true visual sense of the crowd’s reaction.

THIS is why marriage equality will win the day. Because young people get the point.

Garbage continues its tour of North America with its latest album, Not Your Kind Of People.
