Director Steven Soderbergh explores the world of male strippers with Magic Mike, and ahead of the film’s June 2012 release, Warner Bros. has unleashed the first still from the dramedy.

Stars Channing Tatum, Alex Pettyfer, Joe Manganiello and Matthew McConaughey are all accounted for in the photo, with the latter apparently dressed as a shirtless Uncle Sam. The rest of the actors, all of whom play strippers in the movie, are only showing off their arms for now.

Magic Mike is inspired by Tatum’s experiences working as a stripper before his acting career took off. But instead of the lead, Tatum plays the mentor to Pettyfer’s character, a performer in the troupe.

Said Manganiello in October about his character: “Big Dick Richie? That’s the reason to do it. There’s definitely a scene that will answer those questions. Everybody kinda does their own thing…Big sexy Kevin Nash has his Tarzan thing, I’ve got my fireman thing, Matt Bomer’s got a doctor thing going on, Adam Rodriguez does a Latino lover bit.”

Magic Mike arrives in U.S. theaters on June 29, 2012. It also stars Matt Bomer, Olivia Munn, Riley Keough and Cody Horn.

From Eonline‘s The Awful Truth: Even though most of the filming has wrapped on Steven Soderbergh’s stripper flick Magic Mike, Channing Tatum and his band of buffed-up boys are prepping to slip on their g-strings and hit the stage again in the next few weeks.

The Magic Mike crew will be adding additional dance numbers! And you know what that means… “More stripping!”

A source this close to the movie tells us when we asked what the latest details on the picture were. “They’re going to be doing additional shooting in the club in a couple of weeks.”

I should mention I’m available for wardrobe duty…  🙂

Did you have any hesitations about the role? It is sort of pegged as the “hot guys getting naked” movie.
Well, I get labeled that on True Blood! I mean, when Steven Soderbergh wants you to do his movie, you say yes. Plus, the cast is the greatest group of dudes ever. It is epic. Epic! We have had so much fun.

Okay Joe, let’s get down to it. How much are we going to be seeing of you?

You are going to see a surprising amount. Shocking amount, actually.

Shocking as in… full frontal?
You are going to see… I mean…. No, no full frontal! But his name is Big Dick Richie for a reason [laughs].

Girls everywhere are fainting right now! So how did Channing help you prep for the role?
It’s based on a character that Channing knew who was named Big Dick Charlie. So we talked about him a lot. I also talked to a group of male strippers from Dallas in the ’90s.

What did they tell you?

They told me it’s sex, drugs, rock and roll. The guy I talked to was ‘the fireman’ in the ’90s so I am going to be doing a fireman routine in the film. Suspenders, hat, I get the axe going — the whole deal!

We’re assuming there are some good dance numbers with all you guys?

Oh you have no idea! It’s been so fun.

Who is the best dancer?
The man to beat is Channing.
