Iowa’s Sioux City Journal & NH Concord Monitor Endorse Hillary Clinton For President

Following up on the endorsement by The Des Moines Register, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton scores two more newspaper endorsements.

Echoing the Des Moines Register, both focus on how qualified Hillary is to be President, and her unmatched breadth of experience.

I’ve been worried that the polls were shifting in Bernie Sander’s direction of late in Iowa, so I’m happy to have any help.

According to Nate Silver’s 538 website, since 1988 an endorsement by the Des Moines Register averages a 3% difference in the total vote. That could make the difference in the upcoming Democratic caucus’s.

From the Sioux City Journal:

Without question, the 68-year-old Clinton possesses a breadth of experiences in public life unmatched by her Democratic opponents. In the “arena” at the fulcrum of national and international events since the ’90s, Clinton requires no on-the-job training. She understands issues and knows leaders, both domestic and foreign, and appreciates the processes and peculiarities of the federal government from the perspective of both the legislative and executive branches.

From children to families to health care to human rights, including women’s rights, to marriage equality, Clinton champions issues and positions true to traditional Democratic principles. She bolsters her domestic credentials with foreign policy experience as America’s chief diplomat.

From New Hampshire’s Concord Monitor:

Only one Democratic candidate for president is truly qualified to hold the job: Hillary Clinton.

No contender’s resume can come within miles of matching Clinton’s. She’s ready to take up the nation’s top job on day one and her knowledge of domestic issues and foreign policy is encyclopedic. There is also a strong chance, should Clinton become president, that the poisonous partisanship that’s paralyzed Washington will be diminished rather than increased. Why? During her eight years as a senator from New York, she proved her ability to find common ground with Republicans, accords that allowed needed legislation to advance.

Iowa’s Largest Newspaper Endorses Hillary Clinton: “The Presidency Is Not An Entry-Level Position”

The editorial board of the Des Moines Register has endorsed former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in the upcoming Democratic Iowa caucus’s.

The presidency is not an entry-level position. Whoever is sworn into office next January must demonstrate not only a deep understanding of the issues facing America, but also possess the diplomatic skills that enable presidents to forge alliances to get things done.

By that measure, Democrats have one outstanding candidate deserving of their support: Hillary Clinton. No other candidate can match the depth or breadth of her knowledge and experience.

As first lady, she worked tirelessly on health care reform and, with bipartisan support, created the Children’s Health Insurance Program that provides coverage for 8 million children.

As a senator, she reached across party lines and joined forces with conservatives, including Sen. Lindsey Graham and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, to fight for job creation and universal health care.

She is not a perfect candidate, as evidenced the way she has handled the furor over her private email server. In our endorsement of her 2008 campaign for president, we wrote that “when she makes a mistake, she should just say so.” That appears to be a lesson she has yet to fully embrace.

Her changing stance on gay marriage, immigration and other issues has invited accusations that she is guided less by personal conviction than by political calculations. She refutes that, and argues persuasively that a willingness to change one’s thinking on specific issues, while remaining true to what she calls “the same values and principles,” is a virtue, one lacking in most politicians.

In the final analysis, Iowa Democrats will have to choose between the lofty idealism of Bernie Sanders and the down-to-earth pragmatism of Hillary Clinton. For some, this will be a choice of whether to vote with their hearts or their heads.

Clinton has demonstrated that she is a thoughtful, hardworking public servant who has earned the respect of leaders at home and abroad. She stands ready to take on the most demanding job in the world.

Pro-Hillary Ad Up In Iowa: “Fighting For You”

As Sen. Ted Cruz and Donald Trump attack each other via campaign ads, the Democratic candidate’s ads are much more positive.

I posted Sen. Bernie Sanders excellent, hopeful ad yesterday, and today we get this uplifting message from former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

The focus of the ad is on Hillary’s message that she will fight for everyone – “the struggling, the striving and the successful.” Hillary makes a very clear reference to supporting same-sex marriage with shots of a gay couple kissing and holding hands as she punches the words “or who you love.”

Very good spot. I’d give it a 9.5 (just because you never know how much better a campaign ad can get.

Hillary Clinton On Bernie Sander’s Promises: “A President Has To Deliver In Reality”

On the campaign stump today, Hillary Clinton addressed the fact that while Sen. Bernie Sanders is espousing and promising new, single payer healthcare programs, and voicing certain foreign policy initiatives, they may not be realistic.

As Hillary Clinton closes in on the final days of campaigning in Iowa, she launched a new broadside against her principal Democratic rival, Sen. Bernie Sanders (Vt.), over his inability to advance a single-payer health-care plan throughout his decades in Congress.

“Senator Sanders has been in Congress for 25 years,” Clinton said at a rally at Simpson College on Thursday. “He never got even a single vote in the House or a single Senate co-sponsor. Not one.”

“You hear a promise to build a whole new system, but that’s not what you get,” she added. “You’ll get gridlock and an endless wait for advances that never come.”

“In theory, there’s a lot to like about some of his ideas,” Clinton said. “But ‘in theory’ isn’t enough. A president has to deliver in reality.”

I’m going to weigh in on this because the same thing happened in 2008. Hillary Clinton campaigned on what was realistic while Barack Obama promised “pie in the sky”hope and change.

Obama eventually delivered a lot of what he campaigned on. But many who voted for him voiced their disillusionment that he wasn’t delivering what he promised.

At the time, I championed Hillary because – with her experience – she didn’t promise the “pie in the sky.” She promised what she felt she could truly deliver.

It feels like we’re seeing a “Ground Hog’s Day” version of this all over again.

With any Republican controlled chamber of Congress, there will never be a single-payer health system. I support it – but it’s not happening any time soon. Hillary continues to campaign on being more moderate, willing to reach across party lines to break up the gridlock in Washington. It’s honestly what has to happen.

We all have our dreams of what we’d like Washington to do, but then there’s the cold reality.

Hillary is being more honest than Bernie about what’s truly possible.

I like Bernie. I like his ideas. But a lot of folks are getting swept up in the airy dreams, and not in the earthbound realities.

Campaign Ad: Jeb Bush Scares Voters With “Hillary Clinton Future”

In an attempt to scare GOP voters with a Hillary Clinton win for the White House, Jeb Bush puts up this ad with an imagined election victory by Hillary Clinton over Donald Trump, ending with “Dont’ panic – it’s not too late to change the future.”

The interesting thing about the ad is – the sun is shining, Hillary looks great, and the crowds are happy. Is this supposed to be a “negative ad?”

Hillary should take the first 90% of this and use it herself.

If I was Jeb Bush, I’d be firing some folks today.

Cher On Donald Trump: “He’s The Ultimate Ego”

Cher pulls no punches in summing up the current presidential race regarding former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and billionaire Donald Trump to Billboard:

“Believe whatever you want about Hillary; whatever she is or isn’t, she’s tough,” Cher says.

“I don’t like anything about Donald Trump. It’s a joke at a time when you really need serious people. I don’t think he wants the job, or I don’t think he actually wants to do the work. I think he wants the job because it’s the ultimate deal, and he’s the ultimate ego. I don’t know that I’ve heard or seen anybody like him, and I also never thought that Americans would go for someone like him, a person of his quality.”

Bernie Sanders Complains About HRC Endorsement Of Hillary Clinton

Yesterday, the Human Rights Campaign – the largest LGBT advocacy organization in the country – officially endorsed former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton for president.

This news did not sit well with her current opponent for the Democratic nomination, Sen. Bernie Sanders, who – to be fair – has also been an ally to the LGBT community for years, just as Hillary Clinton has.

Planned Parenthood also chose to endorse Clinton.

Appearing on MSNBC last night he opined:

“What we are doing in this campaign — and it just blows my mind every day, because I see it clearly, we’re taking on not only Wall Street and the economic establishment, we’re taking on the political establishment.”

“And so I have friends and supporters in the Human Rights Fund, in Planned Parenthood,” Sanders continued. “But you know what, Hillary Clinton has been around there for a very, very long time and some of these groups are, in fact, part of the establishment.”

THAT comment didn’t sit well with Hillary Clinton, who immediately tweeted:

Planned Parenthood and the Human Rights Campaign both responded on twitter Wednesday morning to Sanders’ criticism.

Nate Silver’s 538 Website Predicts Wins For Cruz And Clinton In Iowa

Nate Silver, famous for successfully projecting the winner of all 50 states and the District of Columbia in the 2012 presidential election, predicts that Ted Cruz and Hillary Clinton will win their respective caucus’s in Iowa.

From Politico:

Hillary Clinton and Ted Cruz have the greatest chances of winning the Iowa caucuses two weeks from Monday, new polling-based forecasts from FiveThirtyEight show.

Cruz has a 51 percent chance of winning Iowa when national and state polls as well as endorsements are taken into account. In that forecast, Donald Trump trails Cruz with a 29 percent chance of winning Feb. 1.

A look at just state polls shows a much closer race between Trump and Cruz, giving the business magnate a better chance of winning by 2 percentage points, 44 percent to Cruz’s 42 percent.

All around, Hillary Clinton is believed to have an all-but-certain victory over Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders in Iowa.

The polls-plus forecast gives Clinton an 82 percent chance of winning, while Sanders comes in at 18 percent. That margin narrows dramatically with a look at just Iowa polls, with Clinton leading Sanders 66 percent to 34 percent.

The Human Rights Campaign has endorsed former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton for president.

Just as she has fought for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people as First Lady, U.S. Senator, and Secretary of State.

In the time since she became the very first First Lady to march in a pride parade, she has led on bills to protect LGBT workers from employment discrimination, advanced hate crimes legislation, pushed for greater HIV/AIDS prevention and funding, and worked to extend partner benefits. New Poll: Hillary Clinton Leads Democratic Race By 25 Points

According to the latest NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll, Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton leads rival Bernie Sanders by 25 points nationally ahead of Sunday’s final Democratic debate.

Clinton currently has the support of 59 percent of Democratic primary voters, while Sanders gets 34 percent. Martin O’Malley gets 2 percent.

With the Iowa caucus’s just around the corner, Clinton leads Sanders in recent polling by an average of 4 points, according to RealClearPolitics.

The Democratic debate will air tonight on NBC at 9:00 pm ET.
