GOP Congressman Stephen Fincher’s PR Director Criticizes Obama Kids

GOP Communications Director Elizabeth Lauten

Well, here’s how to lose a job.

Elizabeth Lauten is the communications director for GOP Congressman Stephen Fincher of Tennessee. That basically means she usually helps put out fires, not start them.

She recently took to Facebook to insult sixteen-year-old Malia, and thirteen-year-old Sasha Obama, after deciding they didn’t look properly interested or dressed for the traditional “pardoning” of the White House turkey. This is usually a friendly, family-oriented holiday event.

Here’s just a taste of what Lauten had to say about two teenagers who never ran for office and are just living their teen years the best they can in the public spotlight – and doing a great job in my opinion:

“Try showing a little class. At least respect the part you play.”

“Dress like you deserve respect, not a spot at a bar.”

Mind you, these weren’t some off-hand comments made to a friend over cocktails.

Lauten specifically went on Facebook to deliver her attack on these teenagers. Wonderful “family values.”

After some thought – and a call from her boss I bet – Lauten deleted the attack on the Obama children and posted this “apology,” which she also quickly deleted. What a great example of having the courage of her convictions.

I’m not a religious expert, but I’m guessing if it took “hours” of prayer to figure out what she did wrong, there’s a bigger problem.

By the way – here’s a pic of how Malia and Sasha were dressed at the event. I think they look like normal teenagers, which is all they are being asked to be:

So, what do you all think? Are the children of politicians fair game as targets? Are Malia and Sasha allowed to be teenagers?

Curious to what you think.

Republicans Bash President Obama For Doing What Reagan Did

Even before his primetime speech tonight where he will share his plans to address immigration reform, the GOP is hitting President Obama on the “lawlessness” of using executive orders to address immigration challenges in this country.

What’s laughable is how the right wing nuts are working overtime to draw a distinction between President Reagan and Bush’s executive actions on immigration and President Obama’s proposed order, saying that Obama’s authority for deferring deportation — unlike that of his predecessors — is illegitimate.

Plus, it’s been over 500 days since the US Senate passed a bipartisan immigration reform bill but the GOP-led House refuses to bring the legislation up for a vote.

Had Speaker of the House John Boehner daned to bring the bill to a vote, the country would have moved forward on this issue already.

America has made it clear we are tired of obstructionism and “do nothing” Congresses. I completely support President Obama in taking whatever lawful actions he can that make sense to help cope with the country’s immigration issues.

Check the second video below where Boehner laughably talks on “working together to fix our broken immigration system.”  And yet – he has personally kept the issue from a vote in the House.

Hypocrisy at it’s worst.

Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi Elected Chairperson of Republican Association of Attorneys General

Pam Bondi

Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi has been elected chairperson of the Republican Association of Attorneys General.

Since taking office, the Associated Press points out that Bondi has accepted $51,000 in gifts (hotels, meals, free trips) to attend RAGA events.

Bondi, along with Florida Gov. Rick Scott, is responsible in great part for continuing the ban on same-sex marriage in the state.

California: Gay GOP Candidate Carl DeMaio Loses Congressional Bid

Failed GOP candidate Carl DeMaio

After a scandal-ridden campaign for California’s 52nd Congressional seat, openly gay Republican Carl DeMaio has lost his race to incumbent Rep. Scott Peters.

Via 10News.com:

Ballots counted Friday gave Peters 51.3 percent of the vote compared to 48.8 percent for Carl DeMaio, or a lead of nearly 4,500 votes.

Although San Diego County Registrar of Voters Michael Vu estimates that between 10,000 and 15,000 ballots remain to be counted, The Associated Press has determined that is insufficient for DeMaio to overtake Peters.

In addition to two separate accusations of sexual harassment, DeMaio also had to contend with video footage coming to light wherein he told Tea Party supporters he would “owe” them “everything.”

President Obama To Nominate Loretta Lynch For US Attorney General

On Saturday, President Obama will nominate Brooklyn federal prosecutor Loretta Lynch for US Attorney General, replacing outgoing AG Eric Holder.

From Reuters:

President Barack Obama will nominate Brooklyn federal prosecutor Loretta Lynch to replace the retiring Eric Holder as U.S. attorney general and if confirmed, she would become the first black woman to serve in the post, the White House said on Friday.

The 55-year-old North Carolina native and Harvard-trained lawyer has deep experience in both civil rights and corporate fraud cases.

Lynch is known for a low-key personality and stirred little controversy during two tenures as U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of New York.

Her nomination requires Senate confirmation. The Senate twice previously has voted to confirm her to federal prosecutor jobs, the last time in 2010.

Bolding is mine.

This should be an easy confirmation in that the Senate has already confirmed her twice before.

Or will the now GOP controlled Senate decide to get unnecessarily political with this confirmation?

We shall see…

Two of Ms. Lynch’s cases to note:

• Lynch first gained attention for her work prosecuting members of the New York City Police Department for the 1997 beating and sexual assault of a Haitian immigrant with a broom handle. The case became a national symbol of police brutality.

• Lynch has led the prosecution of Rep. Michael Grimm, a Republican congressman from Staten Island, for alleged tax fraud. Even under indictment, Grimm was reelected to the House this week.

Carl DeMaio, San Diego Congressional Candidate, Accused Of Another Sexual Harassment Scandal

With only two days before this year’s elections, San Diego’s Carl DeMaio has yet another scandal facing him as a second staffer has come forward accusing him of sexual harassment:

Twenty-five year old Justin Harper, a Navy veteran,  began interning with DeMaio’s campaign in February. A month later he was hired as a regional political director whose job was to make phone calls and knock on doors to ask voters for their support.

From KPBS:

On Thursday, July 10, Harper said, he returned to DeMaio’s Miramar campaign office in the afternoon following a day of walking neighborhoods and knocking on doors for the campaign. He said there had been a news conference at the headquarters, so DeMaio and other staffers were still in the office.

According to a campaign press release, DeMaio had a news conference at noon that day to “blast sweeping Medicare cuts.”

Harper said he went to the restroom and didn’t know anyone was in there.

“I was at the urinal, and (DeMaio) came from the stall that was closest to the urinal and was kind of just standing there hovering,” Harper said. “I turned around and realized that it was Carl. He had his pants up, but his fly was undone, and he had his hand grasping his genitals.”

Harper said DeMaio didn’t say anything to him, and he didn’t say anything to DeMaio.

“I just walked out. I didn’t say anything to him, I just left,” Harper said.

As was the case in the other scandals, DeMaio’s campaign has denied the allegation.
