Donald Trump Would “Look Into” Continuing Tradition Of LGBT Pride Proclamation

ABC News’ Jon Karl asked the presumptive Republican nominee if he would continue some of the minority outreach that the Obama administration has conducted the past 8 years including presidential proclamations for LGBT Pride month and hosting Ramadan dinner with Muslims:

Trump then went on to argue that he is stronger on the issue than is presumptive Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton, because he says that she has accepted money from countries that do not respect gay rights through the Clinton Foundation.

“I’m better for women and I’m better for gays. I am better for a lot of people and I think people are starting to see that,” Trump said.

Trump also indicated to Karl that he’d be open to continuing the tradition of hosting an Iftar dinner in celebration of the Muslim holiday of Ramadan, as both President Obama and Bush have done.

“It wouldn’t bother me. It wouldn’t bother me,” Trump said. “It’s not something I’ve given a lot of thought to but it wouldn’t bother me.”

Note how Trumpster repeats everything he says. Strange tick, isn’t it?

Of course, what the Donald isn’t repeating here is that he’s told right wing Republicans and pundits that if he were elected he would make nominations to the Supreme Court that would tilt the court far right which could lead to overturning marriage equality in the future. Trump has already stated he isn’t in favor of same-sex marriage.

And I’m sure Muslim hear a lot of “hospitality” in the phrase “it wouldn’t bother me.” How very welcoming.

Jerry Falwell Jr. Poses With Donald Trump Next To Playboy Magazine Cover

Jerry Falwell Jr., president of the evangelical Liberty University, tweeted the image after a meeting of evangelical leaders and social conservatives with Trump in New York.

From The Hill:

Falwell faced mockery after social media users pointed out the framed 1990 Playboy Magazine cover hanging on the wall behind them.

He responded by calling those critical of him “hypocrites.”

Sen. Ben Sasse (R-Neb.), a vocal critic of Trump, also weighed in.

Donald Trump Losing Ground In Vital Swing State Florida

The latest Quinnipiac University poll shows GOP presidential candidate losing ground to Dem Hillary Clinton in the vital swing state of Florida:

From Politico:

Clinton leads Trump by eight points in Florida, 47 percent to 39 percent, up seven points overall from May when she was clinging to a 43 percent-to-42 percent advantage.

Trump’s advantage among Florida men dropped 9 points over the last month, from a 13-point lead to just four points, 45 percent to 41 percent in June.

Among women in Florida, Clinton’s advantage grew by 5 points, from 48 percent to 35 percent last month to 52 percent to 34 percent in the post recent survey.

White voters support Trump over Clinton 51 percent to 36 percent, while non-white voters backed Clinton 72 percent to 8 percent.

Trump Campaign Paid $35,000 To Possibly Fictional “Draper Sterling” Ad Agency

Folks are talking about Donald Trump’s most recent FEC campaign filing, and one item of note is that they paid $35,000 to an ad agency that, it seems, only exists in the world of television.

Props to ThinkProgress’ Judd Legum who noticed the detail when poring over Trump’s financial statements.

Oh dear.

As many of you may remember, “Draper Sterling” is similar to the name of the ad agency in AMC’s hit series, Mad Men. So, it would definitely seem odd that the Trump campaign would make several sizeable payments to “Draper Sterling” in April of this year for web advertising.

Even more – look, there’s an address!

Using Google Maps, intrepid folks located the “place of business” for Draper Sterling. And it’s a little surprising. Here’s a pic of the “offices” for Draper Sterling.

Now, the location is interesting not only because it’s a HOUSE, but also because it’s not far from now-former campaign manager Corey Lewandowski. Now, guess who would have ok’d these payments to “Draper Sterling?”

Oh – and one more little detail. Perhaps this factored into why Corey was fired yesterday?

UPDATE: ThinkProgress is now reporting that not only did the bios of two of the players involved with “Draper Sterling”disappear from the website of their medical device company early this morning, shortly thereafter the entire site was yanked offline, replaced with password-only access.

ThinkProgress reached out to a third player for “Draper Sterling,” Adam McClain, and this is the response:

When ThinkProgress called Grace’s Grantham Cafe directly on the number listed on its website, Adam McLain answered. (McLain’s super PAC filing says he lives Virginia.)

Asked about his connection to Draper Sterling and what services it provided to his super PAC, McLain said he had “no comment.” Asked whether Grace’s Grantham Cafe was a real cafe that has opened, McLain said he had “no comment.” Asked whether Paul Holzer was his brother, McLain also said he had “no comment.” McLain said he didn’t find the questions “relevant.”

Neither Adkins or Holzer immediately returned inquires from ThinkProgress. An inquiry to the Trump campaign about what services Draper Sterling provided was also not immediately returned.

Donald Trump “Parts Ways” With Campaign Manager

Corey Lewandowski

Via Huffington Post:

Falling in the polls and watching Republican delegates mount a campaign to oust him, Donald Trump has cut ties with his controversial campaign manager Corey Lewandowski.

Lewandowski had been with Trump since January 2015, when most political observers believed the reality TV star was never going to actually run for president, and guided him to securing the nomination in May when his final opponents dropped out.

The New Hampshire native had no experience on national campaigns, and had jealousy protected his access and influence with Trump, arguing that letting “Trump be Trump” was the strategy that would win the White House just as it won the nomination.

For weeks Lewandowski had been competing with longtime GOP lobbyist and consultant Paul Manafort, who was originally brought in to manage the campaign’s delegate tracking operation for the nominating convention in Cleveland.

The Trump campaign issued a statement which read, in part:

“The Donald J. Trump Campaign for President, which has set a historic record in the Republican primary having received almost 14 million votes, has today announced that Corey Lewandowski will no longer be working with the campaign,” the campaign spokeswoman, Hope Hicks, said in a statement. “The campaign is grateful to Corey for his hard work and dedication and we wish him the best in the future.”

Upon news of the announcement, Michael Caputo, a Trump communications aide who has endured an tense relationship with Lewandowski shared this on Twitter:

Donald Trump Says “We Really Have To Look At Profiling” Muslim Americans

Via USNews.com:

Trump made the case on the weekend that the U.S. should consider profiling Muslims inside the country as a terrorism-fighting tool, the latest example of his backing positions that could single out a group based on its religion.

“We really have to look at profiling,” Trump told CBS’s “Face the Nation.” ”It’s not the worst thing to do.”

Trump’s proposal runs counter to Justice Department policy, which prohibits profiling on the basis of race, religion, ethnicity and national origin. That profiling ban applies not only to federal agents but also to local law enforcement officers who participate in federal task forces.

Donald Trump Walks Back ‘Guns In Nightclub’ Statement

Last week, Donald Trump said that if the folks in the Pulse Nightclub in Orlando had more guns, the outcome would not have been so grim.

A day after the attack, he told radio host Howie Carr: “It’s too bad that some of the young people that were killed over the weekend didn’t have guns, you know, attached to their hips, frankly, and you know where bullets could have flown in the opposite direction, Howie. It would have been a much different deal. I mean, it sounded like there were no guns. They had a security guard. Other than that there were no guns in the room. Had people been able to fire back, it would have been a much different outcome.”

And he said this in a campaign appearance:

Today, he’s walking that back…

Campaign Ad: Donald Trump “I Love War, In A Certain Way”

Set to air in 8 swing states, a new campaign spot by Pro-Hillary Clinton super-PAC, Priorities USA, slams presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump for what it calls “dangerous” policy positions using his own campaign rhetoric.

“I know more about [the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria] ISIS than the generals do, believe me.”

“I’m really good with war. I love war, in a certain way.”

The ad ends: “Donald Trump, too dangerous for America.”

Bill Maher On Trump Campaign: “This Was The Week It Ended”

Bill Maher and his panel on HBO’s Real Time took a look at GOP White House hopeful Donald Trump’s drop in the polls this week and what the causes were: attacks on Trump University judge, and selfish “I was right” messages coming after the deadly Orlando nightclub shooting.

Said Maher:

“I see it as, this was the week it ended. And by the way I don’t think I’m the only one, because most of the Republicans who were caught on camera this week basically said, ‘I don’t want to talk about it.’ I mean they dashed into the elevator. … The judge thing looked selfish. There is no constituency for Trump University except Donald Trump…And then the first thing out of his mouth after Orlando was, ‘I was right. I was right about terrorism.’ He looks like what he is — a narcissist.”
