TEEN WOLF/ARROW Star Colton Haynes Officially Comes Out

Rumors, innuendo and even coy teasing have surrounded Arrow / Teen Wolf star Colton Haynes’s sexual orientation for years, the pinnacle of which was a coy response to a social media post back in January.

Now, the hunky actor shares his journey to living openly with Entertainment Weekly. Along the way, Haynes explains why it took him a while to get comfortable living in his own skin.

“I asked to step away because I cared more about my mental and physical health than my career at the time,” the actor tells EW, opening up about his personal and professional life for the first time in quite some time. “I’ve had terminal anxiety my entire life. Physically ill, fainting. I’m 27 years old, and I have an ulcer. I had to step back.”

“I should have made a comment or a statement, but I just wasn’t ready. I didn’t feel like I owed anyone anything. I think in due time, everyone has to make those decisions when they’re ready, and I wasn’t yet. But I felt like I was letting people down by not coming forward with the rest of what I should have said.” The headlines about Haynes turned vitriolic in the absence of an announcement, but he was in no place to make one: He had checked into rehab for anxiety and would be frequently back in the hospital over the next three months.

“People want you to be that GQ image that you put out, but people don’t realize what it’s like to act 24 hours a day. I’d go home and I was still acting,” he says gently. “People who are so judgmental about those who are gay or different don’t realize that acting 24 hours a day is the most exhausting thing in the world.” The truth is, Haynes has been out for most of his life – in high school, to his family and friends, to his cast members, to his Hollywood bosses (like Arrow creator Greg Berlanti, now one of his closest mentors). But as a green transplant in Hollywood in 2006, he wasn’t any more immune to the town’s well-chronicled discomfort with LGBT identity.

Though the 27-year-old has been out to his friends and family for years, he’s now ready to live openly in front of everyone.

“It took me so long to get to this point, but I’m doing so good. I’m happier than I’ve ever been, and healthier than I’ve ever been, and that’s what I care about.”

Congrats, Colton!

Colton Haynes’ Valentine’s Day

Colton Haynes shared the above pic on his social media yesterday pointing up his (apparently) single status of late.

I guess it was just Colton and an empty men’s suit for the holiday. No worries, Colton – millions love you.

It was just last month Haynes “came out” with a sly comment on a fan’s Tumblr post.

Funny Or Die: Colton Haynes On Male Model Inequality

Beautiful do-gooders Colton Haynes (Arrow) & Cody Horn (Magic Mike) are taking a stand against a serious injustice occurring in today’s workplace.

Says Colton in this Funny Or Die clip:

“I thought these cheekbones were gonna take me all the way! But in July, Fortune magazine published an article that said that the highest paid female model earns 95 percent more than the highest paid male model! Men earning less than women but doing the same work? How long has this been going on? Do other male models know about this?”

Not sure how funny this is, but it’s always nice to take a break and look at Colton’s handsome face.

Did ARROW/TEEN WOLF Star Colton Haynes Just Come Out?

A fan of ARROW and TEEN WOLF star Colton Haynes, Tumblr user pornandmariah, posted this on their Tumblr account:

Haynes posted that to his own Tumblr account with this comment:

Of course, I’m of the “more the merrier” kind of crowd, but I’m not sure if that’s one of those casual “hey, yeah, I’m out” kind of things or he’s just chilling with the flow. Although, I should share this New Year’s Eve tweet from the hunky star:

Bottom line, how to do you argue a man who encourages everyone to live with no regrets?

And with 3.4 million followers on Instagram (getting around 250K “Likes” per post), Colton has a voice to reach young folks about being openly gay. Good on you, Colton.

Forward.

p.s. It’s worth noting that Colton does have an openly gay brother, Joshua Haynes:

Boy Culture points up Randy Report favorite Colton Haynes (MTV’s Teen Wolf, CW’s Arrow) in the June Men’s Fitness talking on his big screen release San Andreas, where he plays a rookie on a helicopter rescue team.

Whether it’s as a hero on the big or small screen, Haynes always looks pretty “heroic.”

Happy Hump Day!

Music: “Baby It’s Christmas” featuring Colton Haynes

Arrow and Teen Wolf star Colton Haynes teams up with Travis-Atreo Graham again for this stipped down version of an original holiday song, “Baby It’s Christmas.”

From Travis-Atreo:

Happy Holidays my friends! Today’s video features an original song I put out last year with my buddy Colton Haynes called “Baby It’s Christmas”. The song is written about a soldier away at war trying to get back home in time for Christmas. I hope you like our stripped down piano version of the song!
