Channing Tatum: “Magic Mike 2” is in development

The shirtless men of Magic Mike

Get ready to “Channing all over your Tatum”, kids.

Channing Tatum tells The Hollywood Reporter that the sequel to Magic Mike is in development:

“We’re developing Magic Mike 2, but [director Steven Soderbergh] really wants to be done directing movies,” says the new dad, who revealed that he may direct the follow-up himself. “We’ll see. I wish people would lobby him to finish what he started: ‘Come on, man! Stop being stubborn and come back.’ I’ve said that to him, but he is a very fixed-in-his-ways guy, and if he says it, it is hard to change.”

So what will Magic Mike 2 be about? “It will be a road-trip movie, and it will essentially be the movie that everyone thought the first one was going to be: crazy and fun and less slice-of-life and less drama. The first one, we had to make not so cheesy and campy; this one we are going to swing for the fences.”

Trailer: Channing Tatum in WHITE HOUSE DOWN

“How do you lose a rocket launcher???”

Folks are sometimes surprised when I share that my favorite movies are adventure/action movies. Romantic movies usually make me uncomfortable because they generally require folks to look dumb or awkward in some way. Not my thing.

Channing Tatum is definitely “my thing.” The mix of humor and action works for me 🙂

I’ll be seeing this day one on June 28th.

Official Description:
While on a tour of the White House with his young daughter, a police officer (Channing Tatum) springs into action to protect his child and the president (Jamie Foxx) from a heavily armed group of paramilitary invaders. Co-starring Maggie Gyllenhaal, James Woods and Joey King.

Shirtless scene cut from Channing Tatum’s “G.I. Joe: Retaliation”

While many of you may have seen “G.I. Joe: Retaliation” sending the film to a $100 million worldwide dollar box office take this weekend, you probably don’t remember the scene above.

That’s because the bar scene in which Channing Tatum, Dwayne Johnson and a shirtless D.J. Cotrona appear was cut from the final version of the film.

Buzzfeed explains:

Director Jon M. Chu told me that the bar scene with Tatum, Cotrona, and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson was cut and re-shot early last year — before the film’s release date was pushed from June 2012 to this weekend — without Cotrona because it wasn’t successfully conveying the warmth of the relationship between Tatum and Johnson’s characters. “It was more plot-driven,” Chu said. “It didn’t set the tone right for movie. We wanted something a little more jokey.” So out went Cotrona, and in went a scene of Tatum and Johnson bonding while playing a military videogame. With their shirts on.

Jamie Foxx: “I wanna Channing all over your Tatum”

Last night on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Kimmel had the stars of White House Down on his show, Jamie Foxx and Channing Tatum.

It turns out Foxx liked working with Tatum so much, he wrote a song in appreciation of Tatum’s sexiness.

Foxx sings, “I see a pretty lady all across the bar, she smiles at me and gets right in my car and I know… I wanna Channing all over her Tatum.”

The ever sexy Tatum seemed a tad uncomfortable with his name being used as dirty song lyrics at first, but then he got into it, takes to the top of the piano and serves up some Magic Mike/Chippendales moves.

Song bit starts around the 3:30 mark.

MAGIC MIKE sequel in the planning stages

So who wants more MAGIC MIKE?

Asked during a Twitter question and answer session for Glamour magazine, Tatum responded: “Yes, yes and yes! We’re working on the concept now. We want to flip the script and make it bigger.”

Early in the development stages, there’s no word on whether Steven Soderbergh will return to direct.
