Top 10 U.S. Cities With Same-Sex Families

AP News noted that three of the country’s largest metropolitan areas – New York City, Los Angeles, and Chicago – didn’t make the top 10 list. While those cities have highly visible LGBTQ communities, due to the vast size of those metro areas the concentration of gay/lesbian households becomes diluted.
Trump To Abandon Citizenship Question On Census, Will Seek Info By Other Means

CNN reports that Donald Trump will back down from his push to have a question regarding citizenship on the 2020 census.
Instead, he’ll issue an executive order asking the Commerce Department to obtain the citizenship info he wants through other means.
These people said Trump is expected to table his effort to add a question about citizenship status to the 2020 census, setting aside his demands last week to continue pursuing the issue despite a Supreme Court order blocking it.
Trump tweeted Thursday morning he would be holding a press conference in the Rose Garden in the afternoon about “the census and citizenship.” Attorney General William Barr will participate in the event, according to Justice Department spokesperson Kelly Laco. The Justice Department declined further comment on the details of the planned announcement.
The Supreme Court late last month blocked a citizenship question from being added to the 2020 census. The bitter controversy centers around whether the administration can ask all recipients a citizenship question on the 2020 census for the first time since 1950 — a move that could impact the balance of power in states and the House of Representatives, which are based on total population.
The White House will be hosting a very big and very important Social Media Summit today. Would I have become President without Social Media? Yes (probably)! At its conclusion, we will all go to the beautiful Rose Garden for a News Conference on the Census and Citizenship.— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) July 11, 2019
Opponents say adding the citizenship question could discourage undocumented immigrants from answering the questionnaire.
That could, in turn, produce lower population counts. And those counts are used to apportion congressional districts, as well as determine where federal funds are used.
More from the New York Times:
Government experts have predicted that asking the question would cause many immigrants to refuse to participate in the census, leading to an undercount of about 6.5 million people.
That could reduce Democratic representation when congressional districts are allocated in 2021 and affect how hundreds of billions of dollars in federal spending are distributed.

No LGBTQ Questions Will Be Included In 2020 Census
The 2020 W.S. Census will not contain any questions related to sexual orientation or gender identity says Census Director John Thompson:
Yesterday, the U.S. Census Bureau hit a major milestone and delivered the planned subjects for the 2020 Census and the American Community Survey (ACS) to Congress as required by law.
Since releasing this information, there have been a number of questions raised about the inclusion of sexual orientation and gender identity due to an error in the appendix of the report.
Our proposal to Congress was that the planned subjects remain unchanged from the 2010 Census and will cover gender, age, race/ethnicity, relationship and homeownership status.
It did not include sexual orientation or gender identity.
The inclusion of LGBTQ categories were initially included but were quickly deleted after a draft of the survey questions was released.
LGBTQ activists are outraged about this as the Census helps determine in great part where federal funds are utilized in regard to the U.S. population.
If the government doesn’t know how many gays there are, how do they know where important resources like law enforcement, health care, and equal employment opportunities are needed?
This is the erasing of LGBQ Americans.
U.S. Census Reverses On Deleting Sexual Orientation Question
From the National LGBTQ Task Force:
Today, the US Census Bureau reversed a previous decision to exclude a question on sexual orientation from the Census Barriers, Attitudes and Motivators Study. In response to this victory, Rea Carey, Executive Director of the National LGBTQ Task Force, issued the following statement.
“Make no mistake – public pressure on the Trump Administration works. It was messages from the members of the National LGBTQ Task Force and our partner organizations that compelled the Census Bureau to reverse their appalling decision to stop counting us.
“Thanks to the efforts of people across the country, the Census will continue collecting data about sexual orientation. We also will continue to push them to collect data about gender identity. Data about the LGBTQ community is absolutely crucial to ensuring that we are distributed the resources we need, that we are represented, and that the most vulnerable in our community are protected.”
