Monday Musicals has kicked off with an exciting lineup of special events at XL Nightclub beginning with a performance by Tony Award winning Kinky Boots star Billy Porter who helped launch the series last night.
New York City’s largest “straight-friendly” cabaret and dance nightclub is also welcomes a new face to its team. Dougie Meyer, the new Director of Promotions & Events for XL Nightclub, will carry over the concept of Musical Mondays, which will be enhanced, supercharged and dubbed “MondayMusicals at XL,” to the Hell¹s Kitchen hotspot housed within THE OUT NYC urban resort.
“After an off the charts first year in business in 2012, the addition of Dougie Meyer will help maintain XL¹s position as the number one gay nightclub in NYC,” says XL Nightclub partner Ian Reisner.

Broadway’s sexiest night of the year has arrived: The 23rd annual edition of Broadway Bares, entitled Broadway Bares 23: United Strips of America, is presented at Roseland Ballroom June 23 at 9:30 PM and midnight to benefit Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.
United Strips of America, according to press notes, “celebrates America’s fruited plains and mountains majesties. A bi-coastal couple will set out on separate, sexy journeys through a dozen states – encountering scantily clad inhabitants along the way – in hopes of reuniting in the heartland.” Max von Essen (Evita) and Michael Cusumano (Chicago) appear throughout the show as the couple. Guest stars also include two-time Tony nominee Christopher Sieber (La Cage aux Folles), 2013 Tony nominee Charl Brown (Motown The Musical), Lesli Margherita (Matilda The Musical), Kate Rockwell (Rock of Ages) and Eric LaJuan Summers (Motown The Musical).
Roseland Ballroom is located at 239 West 52nd Street. Although the 9:30 PM show is sold out, tickets for the midnight show can be purchased online at broadwaycares.org or by calling (212) 840-0770, ext 268. A limited number of tickets also may be available between 3 PM and 7 PM June 23 in the lobby of Roseland Ballroom.
Through 22 editions, Broadway Bares has raised more than $9.8 million for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.

Candi and Randy welcome Billy Porter, 2013 Tony Award winner for “Best Actor in a Musical” for Kinky Boots, to talk about his many careers – as actor, director, writer, recording artist – with the emphasis on artist.
Last night Billy, along with his Kinky Boots collaborators won 6 Tony Awards including Best Score for Cyndi Lauper, Best Choreography by Jerry Mitchell, and Best Musical.
Early in his career, Billy appeared in several successful Broadway shows (Miss Saigon, Grease, Five Guys Named Moe and Smokey Joes Cafe) and wrote his own one-man shows Ghetto Superstar and At The Corner of Broadway and Soul.
His song, “Time” became an overnight hit after being featured on the TV show “So You Think You Can Dance.”
Billy also appeared as “Belize” in the Signature Theatre Company’s 20th Anniversary off-Broadway production of Tony Kushner’s ANGELS IN AMERICA.
