Barbra Streisand Notches Her 31st Platinum Album With “Partners”
Billboard reports that Barbra Streisand’s latest CD – the collaborative duets album Partners – has crossed the one million sold mark, making this her 31st Platinum album. That’s the most for any woman in history.
Her nearest competitor is Reba McEntire who trails with 19 Platinum certifications.
Released last September, Partners debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 – her 10th album to do so. That notched it’s own place in history as it made Streisand the only artist to have a #1 album in each of the last six decades.

Barbra Streisand’s “Partners” Debuts at #1 on Billboard 200
Barbra Streisand’s new album of duets, Partners, debuts at #1 on the Billboard Album Chart, selling close to 200,000 copies.
In doing so, Streisand becomes the only recording artist with No. 1 albums in each of the last six decades.

Hearing the news that “Partners” entered the charts at #1 was an overwhelming feeling of joy!!
Being told that I’ve had #1 albums in six consecutive decades makes me feel truly blessed and grateful to have such loyal fans. I feel you rooting for me and I so appreciate all of your energy and support.
It’s especially sweet since I get to share this moment with my wonderfully talented partners who I had the pleasure of singing with: Michael Bublé, Stevie Wonder, John Mayer, Babyface, Billy Joel, Blake Shelton, Lionel Richie, Andrea Bocelli, John Legend, Josh Groban, my beloved son Jason Gould…and last but not least, Elvis Presley…forever The King!
Finally, thank you to Rob Stringer and my Columbia Records family, my manager Marty Erlichman, my creative team on this project – Kenny Edmonds, Walter Afanasieff, Dave Reitzas, Bill Ross, and Jay Landers…and Ken Sunshine for getting the word out… we did it guys!!
The debut is also the largest first week sales total for a female artist in 2014.
La Streisand’s last album to sell more in a week was Higher Ground, which moved 402,000 in the week ending Dec. 28, 1997.
Barbra’s first #1 album was People, which hit the top in October 1964.

Barbara Streisand appeared on The Tonight Show for the first time in over 50 years last night. A fact that seemed particularly scary for Jimmy Fallon as he explained to Babs that he really expected her to whirl into the studios as a difficult diva. Babs didn’t seem to understand why.
I would guess there was a pre-arranged agreement that Babs would sit in the host’s chair as she is known to favor her left side.
She did sing a medley from her new album Partners using Fallon as a stand-in for Elvis, Blake Shelton and Michael Buble, putting a spin on the rather historic appearance.

Barbra Streisand will appear on The Tonight Show tonight – first time in over 50 years
It’s hard to believe it’s been over 50 years since Barbra Streisand has appeared on The Tonight Show, but those are the facts. Not since she sat down with Johnny Carson in 1963 to promote her debut album. But that changes tonight.

It will be interesting to see if and how “Tonight Show” set decorators accommodate Streisand’s “good side.” Streisand famously favors the left side of her face, so much so that she’s even unseated Oprah Winfrey — when Streisand did interviews with Oprah, she sat stage left and Oprah sat stage right, a complete reversal of Oprah’s normal guest-host arrangement. The Funny Girl’s a huge get, so NBC’s bound to make whatever concessions necessary to get Babs in the building. In addition to an interview with Fallon, Streisand is expected to perform.
I remember when Babs appeared on The Rosie O’Donnell Show, Rosie completely moved everything around on her set. The producers at the time denied it had anything to do with any demands via Babs. And Rosie cried explaining to the legendary singer that her music helped Rosie through her childhood.
Since the new album – Partners – is an all-duets album, I wonder who will appear with her since she is expected to perform?

SiriusXM announces The Barbra Streisand Channel
SiriusXM Radio has announced that Barbra Streisand will be getting her own limited-run channel beginning this Friday, September 12 at 5pm ET.

SiriusXM announced today that it will launch The Barbra Streisand Channel, an exclusive channel featuring the works of Grammy, Oscar, Emmy and Tony award-winning artist Barbra Streisand.
The Barbra Streisand Channel, the exclusive, limited-run channel, will feature music spanning Streisand’s legendary career, from her 1963 debut through her newest album, Partners, scheduled to be released on September 16.
The channel will be fully dedicated to Barbra Streisand’s extensive body of work and will include selections from her live and studio recordings. The channel will also include Streisand’s personal song selections from her catalog, spanning 50 years.
The Barbra Streisand Channel will also feature an exclusive “Town Hall” special with Barbra Streisand. Streisand will sit down for an intimate Q&A session with a select group of listeners in the SiriusXM studios in New York City. Moderated by her longtime colleague, music industry executive Jay Landers, “SiriusXM’s Town Hall with Barbra Streisand” will air onSunday, September 14 at 12:00 pm ET on The Barbra Streisand Channel.
The limited-run channel will run through Friday, October 10, via satellite on Sirius channel 69 and XM channel 73. The Barbra Streisand Channel will also be available online on channel 69 and through the SiriusXM Internet Radio App.
