GOP Rep. Darrell Issa cuts off fellow congressman’s mic and ends committee meeting.

This is one of the more dramatic things I’ve seen in Congress in a long while.

Vis Think Progress:

House Oversight Committee Chairman Darrell Issa (R-CA) sought to silence the ranking Democrat on the Committee, Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-MD), during a hearing on the Internal Revenue Service’s improper targeting of groups applying for tax-exempt status.

On Wednesday, after former IRS official Lois Lerner invoked her Fifth Amendment rights against self incrimination, Issa quickly moved to adjourn the session, saying he could “see no point in going further.” But as Cummings began to ask a procedural question about the issue, the Chairman tried to cut his mic, leaving Cummings to shout from his seat.

Arizona state Rep. Kavanaugh twists and turns trying to justify “License to Discriminate” bill

Anderson Cooper talks to Arizona state Rep. John Kavanaugh who defends his vote for the “License to Discriminate” bill this week.

Mr. Kavanaugh keeps trying to sell the bill as what he would LIKE the world to see it as, but Anderson Cooper keeps bringing his questions around to what reality will be like in Arizona under SB-1062

Legal expert Kenji Yoshino explains the history and reality of the flawed bill.  As Kavanaugh continues to say SB-1062 is just a “tweak,” Yoshino explains the bill actually shifts the matter from government participation to one individual denying another individual.  According to the legal expert, this is no “tweak” but actually a large shift from what was written in law before.

What is happening here is every day political spin.  The GOP Rep. is trying to get out the message that this bill “isn’t bad at all” to make it seem palatable to middle of the road Arizonans.

He’s lying.  He just wants to see the bill signed into law, and then he won’t care.

Breitbart: Coca-Cola Super Bowl commercial featuring diversity was “offensive”

Breitbart columnist Michael Patrick Leahy has his panties all bunched up over last night’s multi-cultural, multi-language Coca-Cola commercial featuring “American the Beautiful.”

In his article post title, Keahy referred to the commercial as “offensive.”

“Executives at Coca Cola thought it was a good idea to run a 60 second Super Bowl ad featuring children singing America The Beautiful – a deeply Christian patriotic anthem whose theme is unity – in several foreign languages. The ad also prominently features a gay couple.

Conservatives instantly lit up social media with objections, with many vowing to boycott the soda company’s products. The lyrics of the song, written in 1893 by Wellesley College Professor Katherine Lee Bates, ask God to grant America ‘brotherhood / From sea to shining sea.’

As far as the executives at Coca Cola are concerned, however, the United States of America is no longer a nation ruled by the Constitution and American traditions in which English is the language of government. It is not a nation governed in the Anglo-American tradition of liberty.

It is instead a nation governed by some all inclusive multi-cultural synthesis of the various forms of government in the world, as expressed by the multiple languages used in the Super Bowl ad to sing a uniquely American hymn that celebrates our heritage.”

Regarding the last line there – that would be “diversity.” And that’s exactly what America is, Mr. Leahy.

Let me know if I’m going to fast for you here.

Here is the commercial below:

Rush Limbaugh on the Grammy Awards: “It was horrible; it was despicable”

Rush Limbaugh, predictably, hated everything about last night’s Grammy Awards show.

His review? “It was horrible; it was despicable.”

In a rambling rant, Rushbo bounced from one topic to another never connecting any of them. From Katy Perry being “dressed like a witch and burned at the stake,” to straight and gay couples, young and old, being married during a performance of 4-time Grammy Award winner Macklemore and Ryan Lewis’ “Same Love.”

Rush decried the hateful attack of the lyrics of “Same Love” on conservatives: “The right-wing conservatives think it’s a decision / And you can be cured with some treatment and religion.”

To be honest, isn’t that EXACTLY what right-wing conservatives think?

Limbaugh also drums up the previously reported musings of former Alabama quarterback AJ McCarron who lamented the “demonic” nature of the show.

Take a listen above (audio only) if you need to be reminded how someone makes millions blabbering all day long to himself.

Keep in mind, though – this guy runs the Republican party.

SRSLY.

Hate group leader: Forcing businesses to follow the law is the same as making gays attend church

Hate group leader Tony Perkins, of the Family Research Council,  says that requiring businesses to follow the law and not discriminate against gays is “essentially” the same thing as forcing gays out of a gay bar and into a church.

And clearly, by “essentially” he means “not at all the same.”

Jeremy Hooper at Good As You gets it right:

“The proper analogy would if a gay bar wanted to deny a Christian customer bar service. In that case, Tony would actually have a point, as religion, like sexual orientation, is a protected class in most state nondiscrimination laws.

But the case, as the reliably hostile FRC president states it, only shows (a) how fully he misunderstands what’s going on and (b) just how excessive his evangelical superiority complex truly is.”

You can listen to the flawed logic of Tony Perkins below.

Duck Dynasty personality Phil Robertson reveals anti-gay animus in GQ interview

Duck Dynasty personality Phil Robertson

Duck Dynasty personality (and Tea Party hero)  Phil Robertson has shares his anti-gay animus with GQ Magazine in an interview that includes this statement:

“It seems like, to me, a vagina—as a man—would be more desirable than a man’s anus. That’s just me. I’m just thinking: There’s more there! She’s got more to offer. I mean, come on, dudes! You know what I’m saying? But hey, sin: It’s not logical, my man. It’s just not logical.

[snip]

“Start with homosexual behavior and just morph out from there. Bestiality, sleeping around with this woman and that woman and that woman and those men. Don’t be deceived. Neither the adulterers, the idolaters, the male prostitutes, the homosexual offenders, the greedy, the drunkards, the slanderers, the swindlers—they won’t inherit the kingdom of God. Don’t deceive yourself. It’s not right.”

Bryan Fischer, of the anti-gay hate group American Family Association, is absolutely giddy over Robertson’s statements:

This would be the same Bryan Fischer who has called for gay people to be criminalized, rounded up, and treated like drug addicts – and that’s just the beginning of his attacks on the LGBT community).

In a press statement, GLAAD says that Robertson’s “statement is far outside of the mainstream understanding of LGBT people.”

“In Louisiana, which passed a constitutional amendment banning marriage equality, 56% of the population support some sort of legal recognition, marriage or civil unions, for gay and lesbian couples according to Public Policy Polling released in August 2013.”

Kinsey Sicks sing “Dreaming of a White Santa” in response to Megyn Kelly

America’s Favorite Dragapella® Beautyshop Quartet* responds to FOX News’ Megyn Kelly and Santa’s race.

Based on “White Christmas” by Irving Berlin – Parody by Ben Schatz

I’m dreaming of a white Santa
Like Megyn Kelly seems to know
While FOX News is dissin’
A made-up war on Christians
To boost ratings on their shows

I’m dreaming of a white Santa
With dark-skinned elves kept out of sight
May your news be skewed to the right
And may Santas like FOX anchors all be white!

Young homophobe banned from Youtube for hate speech

For years, young Caiden Cowger has been posting homophobic rants on Youtube.

I would post one here for you as an example EXCEPT the little hater has now been banned from Youtube. The mini-Limbaugh posted the news on his “Cowger Nation” website today.

“We’d like to inform you that due to repeated or severe violations of our Community Guidelines (http://www.youtube.com/t/community_guidelines) your YouTube account CaidenCowgerShow has been suspended. After review we determined that activity in your account violated our Community Guidelines, which state that hate speech is not acceptable on our site. “Hate speech” means content that promotes hatred or violence against members of a protected group (race or ethnic origin, religion, disability, gender, age, veteran status, and sexual orientation/gender identity). Please be aware that you are prohibited from accessing, possessing or creating any other YouTube accounts. For more information about account terminations and how our Community Guidelines are enforced, please visit our Help Center at https://support.google.com/youtube/bin/answer.py?answer=92486&hl=en-US.”

The headline of his post today was “Youtube Bans Cowger For Life!”

Quite the drama queen, isn’t he? And he writes in the third person?

Cowger goes on to say that he never “spoke words of hatred toward a group of people. I spoke against their behavior. On that channel, I simply just voiced my opinions opposing liberalism, including the homosexual lifestyle.” So, clearly he has a loose handle on language skills because what he was spreading on his now-defunct Youtube channel was clearly hate speech.

By the way, how’s that for an ego – Cowger Nation???

SRSLY.
