Geraldo Rivera shocks the Twitterverse with selfie body photo

Geraldo Rivera shocked the Twitterverse with the above photo he posted on Twitter on July 21.

I don’t find the pic  terribly salacious, but I’m not a fan of Rivera’s to begin with.

Throughout the recent Trayvon Martin/George Zimmerman trial, Rivera maintained that Trayvon was shot because he was wearing a “hoodie” and therefore appeared to be a thug.

Rep. Louie Gohmert: Speaking against LGBT equality will soon be a hate crime

At an “America in Distress” Tea Party rally in Dallas on July 2, Texas Rep. Louie Gohmert claimed the Obama administration is “coming after religion” and would soon prosecute anyone who spoke out against LGBT equality as a hate crime, reports Right Wing Watch.

He asked those who believe in evolution and marriage equality, “If you believe that throughout the history of the universe, and particularly Earth, that people have come together and born an offspring from different species that has evolved and given us stronger and better species, how does the mating of two males evolve the species upwards?”

Because, you know, the only time Gohmert has ever “mated,” it was always about evolving the species upwards…

GOP Congressman Gingrey suggests classes for young children to teach gender roles

So NOW the Republicans, who say sex education belongs at home, want to teach elementary school students who and what a “daddy” is and who a “mommy” is?

Rep. Phil Gingrey (R-GA) suggested Tuesday that young boys and girls should be enrolled in classes to educate them on gender roles so that they can learn “what’s important.”

Talk about indoctrination….

Here’s the transcript:

“Maybe part of the problem is we need to go back into the schools at a very early age, maybe at the grade school level, and have a class for the young girls and have a class for the young boys and say, you know, this is what’s important,” Gingrey said on the House floor, while defending the Defense of Marriage Act.

“This is what a father does that is may be a little different, maybe — maybe a little different, maybe a little better than the talent that mom has in a certain area and same things for the young girls, you know, this is what a mom does and this is what’s important from the standpoint of that union. Which we call marriage. And we have called that since the beginning of this country and long before the beginning of this country.”

You may recall that Gingrey, who is a medical doctor, said earlier this year that former Missouri Senate candidate Todd Akin was “partly right” when he made his infamous “legitimate rape” comment.

Rush Limbaugh worries Cleveland kidnap victims might get welfare

Visit NBCNews.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy

OMG. Seriously? Sadly, yes. Seriously.

Check out the video of Rush Limbaugh finding that ever elusive connection between the Cleveland kidnapping victims and President Obama.

From MSNBC:

Turns out a certain episode of the CBS series Hawaii Five-O got Rush Limbaugh thinking about a political spin to the Cleveland kidnappings. What if the suspects carried out the kidnappings in order to qualify for welfare benefits and tax exemptions, as was the case in the television show?

“Now I don’t know what happened in Cleveland, but I couldn’t help but make the connection,” Limbaugh explained.

“Three brothers, but not related the three women, have been arrested in Cleveland,” he continued before dropping the possibility that they voted for President Obama. The city, he pointed out, voted for Obama.

Limbaugh admits that he doesn’t have the facts on the case before launching into the explanation that the abductions are somehow related to welfare benefits and sarcastically suggesting that the suspects are likely Obama voters. He pointed out one of the victim’s had a baby.

“Double welfare benefits if one of the women has a baby,” Limbaugh declared.

Matt Barber on Jason Collins’ “hero status” after coming out

In case you don’t see it very often, here’s an example of the kind of douche bag comments the “pro-marriage” anti-gay folks put out into the world in an effort to diminish LGBT rights.

This is Matt Barber writing for World Net Daily regarding NBA-er Jason Collins recent coming out:

“Collins had a girlfriend of eight years. In fact, they were engaged to be married before he dumped her. This would make him ‘bisexual,’ then, wouldn’t it?

“So – and bear with me here – if being “gay” makes him a hero, does being ‘bi’ make him a superhero? That. Is. Awesome! I don’t know: ‘Captain Switch-Hitter’? (Sorry for the mixed metaphor.)

“Then again, if he’s ‘bisexual,’ might that actually diminish his heroism? Would it make him only half a hero, or would it just cancel out altogether, making him ordinary again? It’s all so confusing.

“Seriously, I’d encourage the next pro athlete engaged in some other hitherto-considered-deviant-sexual-lifestyle to ride the wave. Who knows, in today’s ever-‘progressive’ culture, I could see President Obama awarding the Medal of Honor to the first polo player courageous enough to admit having a thing for his horse.”

Chris Evans genuinely dislikes icky conservative opinionator Ben Shapiro

Ben Shapiro has a big problem with Jason Collins being called a “hero.”

Upon Jason Collins’ historic coming-out, Shapiro took to Twitter to decry the calls of heroism being lauded at the NBA center — a popular trend among straight white men who never had to come out as anything in their lives.

Piers Morgan took Shapiro to task on his CNN show for his insensitive comments, at which Shapiro accused the Piers of hating America by thinking that we’re all just a bunch of homophobes:

Shapiro: “Let me ask you something. Why do you hate America so much that you think this is such a homophobic country that when Jason Collins comes out it is the biggest deal in the history of humanity? President Obama has to personally call him to congratulate him.”

Answers Morgan: “I think you might be homophobic simply because you said, why is Jason Collins a hero because he’s gay? Why sneer at a guy for coming out when he’s being courageous?”

Says Shapiro: “I’m Jewish. I wear a yarmulke on TV. There’s a lot of anti-semitism… Being who you are in 2013 in America is what America is about. It is not heroic to be who you are publicly. I’m glad for Jason Collins if he feels that he’s going to live a happier life now. But it does not make you a hero to be who you are.”

I personally can’t stand the sound of Shapiro’s voice.  It’s like nails on a chalk board.  To think people actually listen to him on the radio and such is difficult to fathom.

UPDATE: After the segment aired, super-star movie stud Chris Evans, who has a gay brother, tweeted this:

Brian Brown of NOM continues to hide his head in the sand

Even as Rhode Island became the 10th US state to approve marriage equality, NOM leader and asshat Brian Brown continues to bury his head in the sand and pretend that he is not fighting a losing battle. From USAToday:

“Does inclusive mean that you get rid of your founding principles? Are party platforms supposed to mean anything? If the party does that, the party is DONE! The party is DONE if the Republican party abandons traditional marriage! It will mean that it has turned its back again on not only its base but on the overwhelming majority of folks who identify as Republicans.”

Brian – that NOM paycheck is going to disappear sooner than you think.  Just saying…

Atlanta Falcons Asante Samuel wonders why gays “flaunt” their sexualtiy

Atlanta Falcons cornerback Asante Samuel told FOX Sports Radio that he doesn’t understand why gays have to “flaunt” their sexuality when asked about NBA center Jason Collins.

Said Samuel:

“Straight people are not announcing they’re straight, so why does everybody have to announce their sexuality or whatever? You know, what they prefer…So that’s just how I see it. That’s my opinion on things. All respect you know, I have nothing but respect for the people whoever decisions they make and whatever, but you know, you don’t have to show it and flaunt it like that. You know what I’m saying, we have kids out here, too.”

I’m not sure what the “we have kids out here too” comment means, but it comes across as a judgement of some kind in this context.

Samuel addressed the comments again on ESPN:

“I don’t think it’s something we have to express and let be known of what my sexuality preference is – just stick to sports….I don’t want to teach my kids those things. I teach my kids God. You know, how God lives his life.”

Kind of an awkward interview, no?

I’m not sure what Samuel classifies as “flaunting.” Anytime straight folks talk about their girlfriend/boyfriend/wife/husband without a second thought, they are telling people what team they play for. If you have pictures of your gf/bf/wife/husband, you are showing the world your happy heterosexual life.

Would Samuel consider holding hands in public “flaunting?” Would he advise straight folks to not hold hands in public?
