UPDATED: Nike Cuts Ties To Boxer Manny Paquaio Over “Gays Worse Than Animals” Statement

According to TMZ, Nike is prepared to drop professional boxer Manny Paquaio over his recent “gays are worse than animals” comment.

“Have you seen any animal having male-to-male or female-to-female relations?” Pacquiao said on a Filipino television station earlier this week. “If you have male-to-male or female-to-female [relationships], then people are worse than animals.”

Pacquaio later issued an apology.

The two sides have had a relationship since at least 2006 — but we’re told Nike is particularly disturbed after Pacquiao said gay people are “worse than animals” … and intend to drop the boxer for good.

We’re told the move is not official yet — but there have been multiple discussions and we’re told it appears to be heading in that direction.

Paquaio’s management has not responded to requests for comment.

UPDATE – Nike issued the following statement:

Philly Gay Basher Kathryn Knott Sentenced To 5-10 Months In Jail

Convicted Philly gay basher Kathryn Knott was officially sentenced today to 5-10 months in jail.

When the judge announced a sentence of five to 10 months in jail, Knott, 25, slumped forward in her seat at the defense table and wept.

Knott’s attorney, Louis Busico, who had sought only probation for her, asked the judge if Knott could begin her jail term at a later date.

“She’s going to surrender now,” Covington said in her typical soft voice.

At that, Knott’s mother, Carol Knott, rose from her seat in the second row. A deputy sheriff motioned for her to sit down in the front row.

After Knott got up, red-faced and weeping heavily, she went to the bar of the court and hugged her mother. She then hugged her father, Karl Knott, the police chief of Chalfont Borough, in Bucks County. Then she hugged her mother again.

Knott, of Southampton, had been convicted by a Philadelphia jury in December of four misdemeanor counts – simple assault, conspiracy to commit simple assault, and two counts of reckless endangerment, but acquitted of a more serious felony charge of aggravated assault. The judge also ordered Knott to serve two years probation after her jail term.

The attack that Knott took part in sent two men to the hospital. One of the men had such severe injuries that his shattered jaw had to wired shut for months.

During the trial last year, Philadelphia Magazine reported on the details of the vicious assault according to the testimony of one of the victims, Zachary Hesse:

“What is that, your fucking boyfriend?”

“Yeah, so what if it is my boyfriend,” Hesse said he replied. He said Harrigan shot back in a “tough-guy” tone: “I guess you’re a dirty fucking faggot then.” Hesse approached Harrigan and shouted the same words back at him. Harrigan then pushed him, Hesse testified, and he pushed back. That’s when Harrigan punched him.

Hesse testified the ensuing incident was “terrifying.” He said the group shouted “fucking faggot” and “dirty faggot” constantly; he said it was said “more than 10, more than 20 times.” He threw a punch but it didn’t connect. About six people grabbed his arms, he said in court, and eventually Kathryn Knott threw a punch or slap — he closed his eyes when he saw her open hand coming toward his face — at him while shouting the slur. He identified Knott has his assailant in court.

It’s worth noting that Knott was offered the same plea deal her two co-defendants accepted which would have kept her out of jail serving only probation and community service.

She refused the deal.

Advice Columnist Answers Anti-Gay Mother’s Letter Perfectly

Amy Dickinson

Advice columnist Amy Dickinson ran a “Best Of” column today, including this one exchange from February 2013.

The question comes from a “mother” (I’m using the term loosely here) who is “Feeling Betrayed” by her son. The mother says he won’t stop being gay, and honestly believes the only reason he’s “being gay” is to get back at her for FORGETTING HIS BIRTHDAY THREE YEARS IN A ROW.

Dickinson handles the situation perfectly.

Enjoy!

Dear Amy: I recently discovered that my son, who is 17, is a homosexual.

We are part of a church group, and I fear that if people in that group find out they will make fun of me for having a gay child.

He won’t listen to reason, and he will not stop being gay. I feel as if he is doing this just to get back at me for forgetting his birthday for the past three years — I have a busy work schedule.

Please help him make the right choice in life by not being gay. He won’t listen to me, so maybe he will listen to you. — Feeling Betrayed

Dear Betrayed: You could teach your son an important lesson by changing your own sexuality to show him how easy it is. Try it for the next year or so: Stop being a heterosexual to demonstrate to your son that a person’s sexuality is a matter of choice — to be dictated by one’s parents, the parents’ church and social pressure.

I assume that my suggestion will evoke a reaction that your sexuality is at the core of who you are. The same is true for your son. He has a right to be accepted by his parents for being exactly who he is.

When you “forget” a child’s birthday, you are basically negating him as a person. It is as if you are saying that you have forgotten his presence in the world. How very sad for him.

Pressuring your son to change his sexuality is wrong. If you cannot learn to accept him as he is, it might be safest for him to live elsewhere.

A group that could help you and your family figure out how to navigate this is PFLAG.org. This organization was founded for parents, families, friends and allies of LGBT people, and has helped countless families through this challenge. Please research and connect with a local chapter

For. The. Win!

Bravo Amy!

Rick “Frothy Mix” Santorum Dropping His Presidential Bid

Virulently anti-gay, former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick “Frothy Mix” Santorum will be announcing today that he is quitting suspending his presidential campaign after coming in 11th in the Republican Iowa Caucus Monday night.

From CNN:

Santorum won the 2012 Iowa caucuses and ended that race with the second-most number of delegates to eventually GOP nominee Mitt Romney. But he was unable to capture any momentum this year, despite extensive barnstorming efforts in Iowa.

He is the third Republican presidential candidate to drop out after Monday’s caucuses. Mike Huckabee ended his campaign that night, and Rand Paul suspended his campaign Wednesday morning.

Anti-Gay Ted Shoebat Would Send SWAT Teams In To “Rescue” Children Of Same-Sex Couples

In this video, raging anti-gay “Christian” activist Ted Shoebat declares that all “dykes are criminals” and wants to see SWAT teams raid the homes of gay couple and seize their children.

“I believe sincerely within my heart if you have two dykes or two faggots who have children, those children are in an immense amount of danger. They are in danger of being raped, they are in danger of being molested, they are in danger of being assaulted, murdered, killed. And for the good of that child, the state needs to bust open the doors of those sodomites and confiscate those children. I really believe that within myself.

“If I had the power, I would send the SWAT team or the National Guard and I would say, ‘Guys, there are the homes that we know for a fact have two fags and they have a child with them. Go in there, you arrest those two faggots and you take that child.’

“And the SWAT team would go in there, bust the door open, arrest the two faggots like the terrorists they are, and save that child from this tyranny. Because that’s what this is, this is tyranny.”

FIFA Fines Five Countries Over Anti-Gay Chants

FIFA fined Argentina, Chile, Mexico, Peru and Uruguay on Wednesday for anti-gay chants by their national team’s fans.

The “insulting and discriminatory chants” came during qualifying matches for the 2018 World Cup, FIFA said.

Chile’s fine is the biggest at 70,000 Swiss francs ($70,000) over cases at four different matches. The governing body imposed fines of 20,000 Swiss francs ($20,000) on Argentina, Mexico, Peru and Uruguay. Proceedings continue against Honduras for what FIFA described as “apparent homophobic chants by its supporters.”

The fines were imposed despite FIFA for several years insisting that financial sanctions alone were not enough for discriminatory cases.

Alabama: Birmingham News Says “Roy Moore Is Delusional About Roy Moore”

The AL.com editorial board in Alabama has a scathing op-ed addressing misguided, anti-gay State Supreme Court Justice Roy Moore and his latest attempts to stop same-sex marriage in his state.

Just an excerpt – from the folks who know him best:

It is time Roy Moore realized that he is wrong. He is wrong on this issue, he is wrong in thinking he might ever be governor of Alabama, he is wrong in seeing himself as of presidential timber, he is wrong in thinking that he matters.

Already, there are citizen calls for his impeachment. He will soon go into retirement and be remembered as a bigot, disrespectful of the law and of his fellow human beings. That might be the only memory he has earned in his time in public office. And, hopefully, Alabama’s citizens will be remembered as the ones who showed him the door.

Oregon’s Anti-Gay Bakers Finally Pay Fine For Discriminating Against Same-Sex Couple

The anti-gay owners of the Oregon bakery, Sweet Cakes by Melissa, have finally paid the $136,927 fine levied against the business for refusing to bake a wedding cake for a same-sex wedding.

Aaron and Melissa Klein, the owners of Sweet Cakes by Melissa, refused to bake a cake for Rachel and Laurel Bowman-Cryer, saying it would infringe on their religious beliefs.

In July, Oregon Labor Commissioner Brad Avakian ordered the Kleins pay $135,000 for emotional damages suffered by the couple.

“This case is not about a wedding cake or a marriage. It is about a business’s refusal to serve someone because of their sexual orientation. Under Oregon law, that is illegal,” the bureau’s final order states.

After several months of refusing to pay the damages, Aaron Klein delivered the check (with accrued interest) to the State of Oregon’s Bureau of Labor and Industries offices in Portland on Monday.

While the far right-wing zealots tried to make the case about same-sex marriage, the business was actually fined for discriminating due to sexual orientation, which has been illegal in the state for years.

It’s also worth noting that a Christian crowd-funding campaign raised over $500K for the couple, so the issue actually became a money-making episode.

The state will hold onto the funds until the full appeals process is exhausted.

County Clerk Kim Davis Finds It “Ironic” God Used Her To Deny Loving Couples A Marriage License

“How ironic that God would use a person like me, who failed so miserably at marriage in the world, to defend it now.

“The Lord picks the unlikely source to convey the message.”

– 4x married Kentucky County Clerk Kim Davis to the Associated Press regarding her journey this past year denying same-sex couples a legal marriage license because she disapproved.
