Adele’s “25” Breaks (And Sells) A LOT Of Records

Not only did Adele’s smash-hit 25 become the #1 album in it’s first week of sales, the emotional song set sold more than TWICE the combined sales of the rest of the albums in the top 100 albums sold.

Adele racked up an astonishing 3.38 million units last week, much more than previous front-runner for 2015, Taylor Swift’s 1989 (1.75 million units this year).

To put that in perspective, only two albums outsold that in 2014 (and I mean all of 2014): Swift’s 1989 and the Frozen soundtrack.

According to Billboard, 8.2 million albums total were sold that week, meaning 4 in 10 albums purchased were Miss Adele’s.

And signally a strong trend of late, 22,000 vinyl albums of 25 were sold that week.

If you haven’t checked it out yet, and I can’t imagine that’s statistically possible at this point, head over to iTunes here.

Adele Jams “Hello” With Jimmy Fallon & The Roots On Schoolroom Instruments

As if her record-breaking sales and live appearances haven’t been enough, Adele sits down with Jimmy Fallon & the Roots for an acoustic/schoolroom instruments version of her now mega-hit “Hello.”

No wondering here – she kills it.

Note the “cameo” appearance of a bust of Lionel Richie upstage of the band. Clever, Jimmy Fallon. Clever.

Adele Breaks NSYNC’s Sales Record In Just Four Days

The juggernaut that is Adele keeps on killing it.

Adele’s newly released album “25” sold 2.43 millions units in less than four days.

The record for single week album sales had been held by boy band NSYNC since March 2000 when they released their massive “No Strings Attached” album, selling 2.416 million in the first week.

Adele was only about 100,000 copies shy of that number after just three days of sales: “25” dropped last Friday.

In case you missed it, check out Adele’s live performance of “Water Under The Bridge” on last night’s The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.

That Time When Adele Won An “Adele Look-Alike” Contest

When I was working with Carol Channing on Broadway in Hello, Dolly!, she used to tell us a story of being on tour in San Francisco on Halloween, and she was told about a Carol Channing look-alike contest. She thought it would be funny to enter.

So she did. And came in 3rd.

I think of that as Adele attempted a similar bit in this clip from the BBC last night. Adele entered a contest as a nanny named “Jenny.”

Her comments with the other girls backstage are priceless as she admits that “she” would probably really like one of the contestants performance, and another time when someone notes the use of her hands.

The final touch was a last minute onstage “nervousness” that causes her to start her song again.

But the minute she begins singing, the other girls knew. And it’s fabulous.

New Music: Adele “When We Were Young”

Adele drops her second video – “When We Were Young” – from her new album, 25, out November 20th.

The first single, “Hello,” broke records for the most digital downloads in it’s first week and was #1 in dozens of countries around the world.

The question here isn’t “Will the album be big?” but “How big will this be?”

You can pre-order the album on iTunes here.

Hump Day Remix: DJ Ryan Skyy Remixes Adele’s “Hello”

Last week, Adele thrilled folks by releasing her new single, “Hello,” garnering over 109 million views (at this writing)  on YouTube alone.

But what’s an Adele hit without a great remix?

LGBT producer/DJ Ryan Skyy brings us this uptempo take on Adele’s newest hit. You can download the remix here. (I’ve previously covered Ryan’s work here and here).

I like this  🙂

Happy Hump Day!

New Music: Adele “Hello”

Adele drops her new single, “Hello,” from her upcoming CD, 25.

And in what is now classic Adele mode, the song is about – what else? – heartache.

Hello from the other side
I must’ve called a thousand times to tell you
I’m sorry, for everything that I’ve done
But when I call you never seem to be home
Hello from the outside
At least I can say that I’ve tried to tell you
I’m sorry, for breaking your heart
But it don’t matter, it clearly doesn’t tear you apart anymore

Adele will release 25, her first studio album since 2011, on Nov. 20.
