RNC chairman Reince Preibus says Monica Lewinsky scandal is “on the table” for 2016

Republican National Party chairman Reince Preibus thinks the Bill Clinton/Monica Lewinsky scandal of almost 20 years ago is somehow “on the table” in terms of attacking Hillary Clinton, should she decide to run for president in 2016.

I’m not sure how that becomes a solid talking point unless what you’re addressing is the fact that Hillary didn’t quit when the going got tough, AND she showed a strong commitment to her marriage vows by working it out.

However, those don’t sound like anything negative to me.

Call me crazy, but I think those are strong positives to talk on.

End of the day though, I think using a personal issue between a married couple from almost 20 years ago for political gain today is political suicide.

But, we’ve seen worse from the GOP.

New Jersey: High school friend and Port Authority appointee of Gov. Christie says Christie knew about bridge closing

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie

Not sure, but the other shoe may be dropping on New Jersey Gov. Christie regarding the George Washington Bridge lane-closing scandal.  His high school friend and former top aide says the governor knew about the closings, and can prove it.

From the New York Times:

In a letter released by his lawyer, the official, David Wildstein, a high school friend of Mr. Christie’s who was appointed with the governor’s blessing at the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which controls the bridge, described the order to close the lanes as “the Christie administration’s order” and said “evidence exists as well tying Mr. Christie to having knowledge of the lane closures, during the period when the lanes were closed, contrary to what the governor stated publicly in a two-hour press conference” three weeks ago.

“Mr. Wildstein contests the accuracy of various statements that the governor made about him and he can prove the inaccuracy of some,” the letter added.

When news of the bridge closing scandal hit, Mr. Wildstein, the director of interstate capital projects at the Port Authority, resigned.

Pundits have been awaiting the news of “who” from the governor’s former team might be the first to save their own skin…

Poll: Washington Post shows Hillary clear front runner for 2016

According to a new Washington Post/ABC News poll, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is the clear front-runner for president in 2016.

In a Democratic primary, the poll shows Democratic voters prefer Clinton over Vice-President Joe Biden by 61 points.

On the Republican side of things, former vice-presidential candidate Rep. Paul Ryan barely leads a tightly ranked group of possible GOP nominees at 20%, a 2 point lead over former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush.

In a hypothetical general election, the poll indicates Hillary Clinton would beat NJ Gov. Chris Christie 53% – 41%.

Hillary Clinton has huge numbers as early front runner for 2016 Dem Presidential nominee

Good news for my girl Hillary.  Huge numbers on her side in a recent CNN poll for Democratic nominee for President in 2016.
Interestingly, in the same poll, Gov. Chris Christie tops the GOP side, but not nearly by the same margin as Hillary on the Dem side.  Christie gets 24% over Sen. Rand Paul’s 13%.
Big enthusiasm gap compared to Hillary’s margin over Vice-President Biden’s 52 point deficit.
Does that mean Dems are more united already around a candidate?
AND – will Hillary run?

Poll: Hillary Clinton beats Chris Christie in hypothetical match-up

Hillary would beat Chris Christie in a hypothetical presidental race now poll says

According to a poll released Tuesday by NBC News, the former secretary of state Hillary Clinton leads New Jersey GOP governor Chris Christie 44-34 percent in a hypothetical race.

The poll also showed that Clinton enjoys more unified Democratic enthusiasm for her potential presidential bid than Christie does from his party.

Only 32% of GOP and GOP-leaning respondents called Christie their top choice for the Republican presidential nod; 31 percent named someone else.

In contrast, Clinton was the first choice of 66% of Democrats and Democratic-leaning respondents for the Democratic nomination; 14 percent said they’d opt for another candidate.

Republican National Committee votes to exclude NBC and CNN from 2016 Primary debates

The Republican National Committee (RNC) voted unanimously Friday to exclude NBC and CNN from the 2016 GOP presidential primary debates unless the networks kill their planned films on Hillary Clinton.

Via RawStory:

The Republican National Committee voted unanimously on Friday to exclude TV networks CNN and NBC from any Republican presidential primary debates. According to The Hill, the move is a form of retaliation against the networks for not bowing to the party’s pressure to not air a pair of films about former Secretary of State (and putative 2016 Democratic presidential candidate) Hillary Clinton.

“We don’t have time for the media’s games,” said RNC Chairman Reince Priebus about the election, which is still more than three years away. “We’re done putting up with this nonsense. There are plenty of other news outlets.”

The committee was meeting in Boston for its annual summer meeting. In its resolution against the networks, party officials called for “media objectivity and accountability” and called the Clinton films, which are still in the pre-production phases “political favoritism.”

CNN’s Jeff Zucker announced in July that the network would be producing a feature-length film about the former First Lady and New York Senator. NBC is planning on releasing a four-part miniseries about Clinton with actress Diane Lane playing the lead role.

Hillary Clinton hasn’t announced any intended candidacy for President in 2016 at this point. So, networks should be free to create whatever programming they wish. Were Clinton an actual candidate at this time, the issue would be framed in another perspective.

RNC Chair Reince Priebus demands networks cancel Hillary Clinton documentaries

RNC Chair Reince Priebus has sent letters to NBC and CNN demanding recently announced films celebrating the life of Hillary Clinton be cancelled. The RNC sees the programing as a contribution of sorts to Clinton’s possible campaign for President in 2016. Clinton has not announced whether she will or will not run.

As a result, the Republican National Committee says they will formally bar Republicans from partnering with the networks on any primary or Presidential debates in 2016.

Priebus wrote to CNN:

I find CNN’s actions disturbing and disappointing. Your credibility as a supposedly unbiased news network will most certainly be jeopardized by the decision to show political favoritism and produce an extended commercial for Secretary Clinton’s nascent campaign.

And to NBC:

I find this disturbing and disappointing. NBC cannot purport to be a neutral party in American politics, and the credibility of NBC News, already damaged by the partisanship of MSNBC, will be further undermined by the actions of NBC Universal executives who have taken it upon themselves to produce an extended commercial for Secretary Clinton’s nascent campaign.

Republicans must really be afraid of Hillary if they are making such demands when Hillary has made no announcement on the topic.

What’s next? Anyone who might THINK of running, years down the road, cannot be profiled on TV? Ever?

Hmm….
