Some news items for you as we close out the weekend:
• New York Times: In a 60-to-40 vote on Sunday night, the Senate cleared the way for a spending deal to end the government shutdown. A group of Democrats broke their party’s blockade to vote with Republicans.
• Pink News: As the Supreme Court decides whether to hear a case that threatens marriage equality, research published earlier this week found that 65.8% of Americans support same-sex couples’ right to marry.
• JoeMyGod: Donald Trump was apparently fooled by a satirical website that claimed former President Obama has made $40 million in “royalties associated with ObamaCare.” The site’s About Us page clearly states, “Everything on this website is fiction.”
• Them: Voters in Downington, Pennsylvania, elected Erica Deuso as mayor on Tuesday night, making her the first out transgender mayor in state history.
• Vice: According to the American Psychological Association’s Stress in America 2025 survey, 63% of adults ages 18 to 34 have considered leaving the country this year because of “the state of the nation.”
• Truth Social: Trump also promised today to pay every American a $2,000 “dividend” thanks to his massive tariffs. I won’t be checking my mailbox any time soon…
