Senate Democrats Reach A Deal To Avoid Government Shutdown

Democrats in the U.S. Senate have reached a deal with Senate Republicans to pass five spending bills to fund much of the federal government for the remainder of the fiscal year.

But the agreement includes just a two week stopgap measure to fund the Department of Homeland Security while both sides negotiate guardrails to rein in ICE agents.

Republicans had pushed to fund Homeland Security for several weeks, but Democrats insisted on a shorter-term measure, according to The New York Times.

We’ll have to see IF the House of Representatives can and will process those funding bills after the Senate passes them.  The shutdown deadline is midnight on Friday.

Donald Trump has reportedly endorsed the deal.

This comes after several Republicans joined Democrats in voting down the approved budget bill from the House yesterday.
