As the Russian invasion of Ukraine has roared on for four weeks with death and destruction across the entire country, Zelenskyy has become an international hero. Prior to the attack, the Ukrainian president – a former actor – was a relative unknown in the United States. Today, he has became the face of Ukraine’s incredible strength and resiliency as his country faces the brutality of Russia’s military offensive. But Cawthorn, 25, had a different take. “Remember that Zelensky is a thug,” Cawthorn told reporters in the clip. “Remember that the Ukrainian government is incredibly corrupt and is incredibly evil and has been pushing woke ideologies.” NBC News foreign correspondent Raf Sanchez tweets that Russian state TV is now airing his comments “over and over.” House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy was asked about Cawthorn’s remarks and if he still supported Cawthorn’s reelection. While he admitted “Madison is wrong” in calling Zelenskyy a “thug,” he still supports his reelection. #ProfileInCourage #Not
Russian state TV also jumped on comments by Republican congressman Madison Cawthorn, who called Zelenskyy “a thug”. That got played over and over. pic.twitter.com/VdC2AG48NQ
