Rudy Giuliani Files For Bankruptcy Listing Over $500 Million In Debts

Rudy Giuliani has filed for bankruptcy just days after being ordered to pay $148 million to two former Georgia election workers he falsely accused of fraud as he worked to overturn Donald Trump’s 2020 presidential election loss. https://twitter.com/Reuters/status/1737892835435630865 From Reuters:

In a filing in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in New York, Giuliani said he had between $100 million and $500 million in liabilities and $1 million to $10 million in assets.

Giuliani also said he owed nearly $1 million to the U.S. and New York state governments and nearly $2 million in legal fees.

A federal judge on Wednesday ruled that Giuliani must immediately begin paying the two women, concluding there was a risk he may attempt to conceal his assets.

Among his other debts, Giuliani reportedly owes $1.4 million to his former lawyer in unpaid legal bills. And in August, the IRS filed a $549,435 tax lien against him for the 2021 tax year. A spokesman for the former New York City mayor said the bankruptcy filing would give Giuliani “the opportunity and time to pursue an appeal, while providing transparency for his finances under the supervision of the bankruptcy court, to ensure all creditors are treated equally and fairly throughout the process.” However, declaring bankruptcy probably won’t save Giuliani from owing the $148 million to the former election workers. AP News reports, “Bankruptcy law does not allow for the dissolution of debts that come from a ‘willful and malicious injury’ inflicted on someone else.” But wait! There’s more… Giuliani also faces criminal charges of election subversion in Georgia. #FuckedAroundFoundOut https://twitter.com/AP/status/1737895300134506779
