Nithya Raman Overtakes Spencer Pratt In LA Mayoral Race

In last night’s 5pm drop of new vote counts in the Los Angeles mayoral race, Nithya Raman, a progressive member of the LA City Council, pulled ahead of reality TV personality Spencer Pratt signaling a shift in the race for 2nd place.

Late returns have trended heavily in favor of the liberals who make up an overwhelming majority of the city’s electorate.

Latest update from The New York Times:

“Spencer Pratt had an exciting campaign that captured national attention,” said Paul Mitchell, a political data expert.

He added that Mr. Pratt was “undone by the voters who were holding their ballots, waiting for the last shoe to drop on the Democratic side of the governor’s race.”

After Los Angeles County updated its vote totals on Monday, Ms. Bass led overall with 34.3 percent of the vote, while Ms. Raman had 28.5 percent. Mr. Pratt, who had slipped to third place on Sunday, fell further back to 25.8 percent.

A Los Angeles mayoral candidate can win outright by receiving a majority of votes in the primary. Otherwise, the top two finishers regardless of party advance to a November runoff in the nonpartisan race.

Los Angeles residents vote by mail in large numbers, and ballot counting is a slow process, with leads often shifting as the tally drags on for days or even weeks.

Several election experts said on Election Night that many liberals waited until Election Day to mail their ballots as they made their decision on who to vote for. Thus, the overwhelming number of votes since Election Day going for Raman aren’t a huge surprise.

Mail-in ballots that are postmarked by Election Day  are accepted by county election officials through June 9.

Cultists are claiming people are “dumpster diving” for discarded ballots in order to “rig” the election. But even if you “found” an unmarked, discarded mail-in ballot, election officials check the signature on the ballot with the signature of the voter’s registration card. How many dumpster divers know how to forge someone’s signature?

Decision Desk has predicted Raman will make the “top two” run-off for the fall.

In the California governor’s race, Xavier Becerra advanced to the general election. It was not yet clear who Becerra would face in the general election.

His top rivals came down to Republican Steve Hilton, a former Fox News commentator backed by Donald Trump, and Democrat Tom Steyer, a billionaire climate activist who poured $215 million of his own money into his campaign.
