I came across this cover image for The Rifleman comic book series (issue #10 released January 1, 1962) and was amazed to find it’s real, not a made-up internet meme. The Rifleman was a Western-themed television series following the lives of Lucas McCain (Chuck Connor) and his son, Mark (Johnny Crawford) living out on a ranch in the New Mexico territory. The series ran from 1958 to 1963, and was the first primetime television depiction of a single parent raising a child. Of course, I’m commenting on the rather curious placement of the ‘wood’ Mark McCain is carrying and the expressions on their faces. Looking back, some TV historian folks have noted the subtle homo-leaning touches the show had including the opening credits which featured Connors ‘firing multiple rounds’ from his rifle at crotch level.
High Above Las Vegas With Olivia Newton-John, Human Nature & The Chippendales

This might be a good time to mention that I didn’t meet my father-in-law for 17 years. Michael came out to his family in order to share that he’d met and fallen in love with me back in the mid-90s. I’ll keep it short by saying the news didn’t go over well. In that Michael had just come out, friends at the time told us, “Give them time – this is new to them.” Sure, I get that. While his mother came to visit in Los Angeles after a couple of years, his father wasn’t feeling it, and we just never met. For seventeen years. Until 2011, when Olivia had a concert scheduled near where the parents lived. They loved meeting and seeing her, and it was going to be Michael’s birthday at that time. They asked Michael if they could attend the show but the only snag was Olivia had already asked if I was going to come to the concert. Michael told his parents that I would be there, and the in-laws were like, “Ok, we can meet at the show.” It was the one time I was firm – not crunchy, but firm. No, after waiting 17 years I would not meet my father-in-law as we take our seats and the lights go down in a theater. I asked to at least have dinner the night before like real people. I jokingly told Michael, “And I might wear a dress!” Short version – we met, had dinner and all was fine. No one ever addressed the 17-year gap, but I let it go. In 2019, my mother-in-law passed away after a year-long battle with cancer. When Michael mentioned the upcoming 25th-anniversary idea, his father, Lou, said he wanted to attend. “It’s what your mother would have wanted.” So, here we are on the big day – our group of 25 gets on board the High Roller and off we go!

WH Chief Of Staff Admits Trump Withheld Ukraine Aid As Pressure For ‘Favor’

It was the first time a White House official has publicly acknowledged what a parade of current and former administration officials have told impeachment investigators on Capitol Hill.
“The look-back to what happened in 2016 certainly was part of the thing that he was worried about in corruption with that nation,” Mr. Mulvaney told reporters, referring to Mr. Trump. “And that is absolutely appropriate.”
He said that the aid was initially withheld because, “Everybody knows this is a corrupt place,” and the president was demanding Ukraine clean up its own government. But Mr. Trump also told Mr. Mulvaney that he was concerned about what he thought was Ukraine’s role in the 2016 campaign.
Mick Mulvaney acknowledges that Trump held up Ukraine aid partly over a conspiracy theory involving the 2016 election. “We do that all the time,” he said. “Get over it. There’s going to be political influence in foreign policy.” pic.twitter.com/NOlvTbAxL0

SWALWELL says Mulvaney has “co-signed the president’s confession.” Says Trump has basically “pleaded guilty” and now it’s just a matter of determining the sentence.

Also – the House voted 354-60 to condemn Trump’s decision to withdraw U.S. troops from northern Syria. That included 129 Republicans voting with the Democrats. Quite the day, huh? So. Much. Winning.

Gallup Polls: Majority Supports Impeachment Of Donald Trump

NYC Audit Shows No 9/11 Donations From Donald Trump
Via ABC News:
The New York City Comptroller’s Office has found no evidence that Donald Trump donated to 9/11 charities in the months after the attacks, the agency said.
Trump had promised weeks after the 2001 attack to donate $10,000 to the Twin Towers Fund as part of a charity effort by “The Howard Stern Show.”
“My office has reviewed the donations made in the nearly 12 months following the attacks – and we didn’t find evidence that he contributed a single cent to the victims, our first responders, and to our city through the Twin Towers Fund,” New York City Comptroller Scott Stringer, a Democrat, said in a statement to ABC News today.
“In the wake of 9/11, New Yorkers came together, healed, and rebuilt. If Donald Trump claimed to donate and didn’t, if he claimed to support New Yorkers in a time of crisis and refused, then that would be just plain wrong.”
It’s possible that the Republican presidential nominee donated after the two audit periods reviewed by Stringer’s office. The Trump campaign did not immediately respond to ABC News’ request for comment.
MIKA Drops New Music Video “Dear Jealousy”
Popstar MIKA releases a new video, “Dear Jealousy” today. The video follows the release of his critically acclaimed fifth studio album, My Name Is Michael Holbrook. “This album has been a rich and intense journey,” writes MIKA about the new collection. “Inspired by life in all its glory and all its dark challenges. It’s also inspired by love.” “My intention was to write about life as it happened. A sort of album made in ‘real-time,’” added the artist. “It’s an explosion of joy, color and emotion even though it was born in one of the most challenging periods for my family and I.” “Writing and recording this album was a form of medicine for me and my family. It is so deeply personal but also universal. I have come to realize that the only things that matters in life are the people we love and the stories we tell.” MIKA dedicates the new album to “those people I love and to the notion that although we all hopefully grow with age, we should do so without losing our colors, our warmth or whimsy. I hope my ‘Tiny Love’ stories somehow touch you or transport you, even just for an instant.” Hit the play button below.
CDC: Drop In Condom Use Correlates With Increase In STD Infections
A new report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention shows a startling rise in the number of cases of syphilis, gonorrhea, and chlamydia in 2018. The CDC’s annual Sexually Transmitted Disease Surveillance Report indicates more than 2.4 million infections of the three STDs were reported in 2018, an increase of more than 100,000 from 2017. The New York Times reports the CDC points to multiple factors for the increase:
• A decline in condom use among young people and men who have sex with men
• Increased screening among some groups
• Cuts to sexual health programs at the state and local level
There were more than 115,000 cases of syphilis reported in 2018 representing an increase of 71 percent since 2014. Gonorrhea cases increased by 5 percent in 2018 to more than 580,000. That’s the highest number reported to the center since 1991. And chlamydia diagnoses rose by 3 percent in 2018 to more than 1.7 million cases. Again, a record-breaking figure for the CDC.
The report noted that gay and bisexual men were disproportionately represented in the increase in infection rates. Fifty-four percent of all syphilis cases in 2018 were found in men who have sex with men (MSM).
Unfortunately, these figures may not be a full accounting of STDs in America today as many cases of syphilis, gonorrhea, and chlamydia go undiagnosed.
While we’re big proponents of the use of PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis), it’s easy to wonder if MSM are putting themselves at more risk than they imagine by not using condoms…?
