Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán Loses Reelection Bid

Hungary's Prime Minister Viktor Orban loses reelection bid

Break out the champagne! The 16-year reign of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán (above) comes to an end after a crushing election loss on Sunday to his opponent, Péter Magyar.

Magyar’s Tisza Party won 138 of 199 parliamentary seats in a landslide, securing a two-thirds supermajority with nearly 80% turnout, the highest in Hungary’s post-communist history.

As I’ve reported here many times, Orbán – among many horrible decisions – has headed up many virulently anti-LGBTQ policies during his time in office including passing a law labeling queer people “pedophiles,” and banning Budapest Pride making it a criminal offense to attend. After more than 16 straight hours of negotiations, Vice President JD Vance announced the U.S. and Iran had not reached any agreement on ending the war.

According to reporting by the New York Times, three main sticking points remained: the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz; the fate of nearly 900 pounds of highly enriched uranium; and Iran’s demand that about $27 billion in frozen revenues held abroad be released. Artemis II Splashes Down Safely After Historic Voyage

Artemis II safely returns to Earth

The four astronauts of the Artemis II splashed down in the Pacific Ocean just after 8 p.m. ET bringing an end to their historic voyage around the moon.

As a little kid in the late 60s/early 70s, I was fascinated by space travel.

From the Washington Post:

The successful landing marks the conclusion of an important test for NASA’s Artemis program, which aims to return astronauts to the moon’s surface and eventually push deeper into the solar system.

Artemis II was the first crewed mission to utilize NASA’s Space Launch System rocket and Orion crew module – demonstrating that the agency’s equipment can propel people out of Earth’s orbit and bring them safely home.

During their 10 days in space, the crew — pilot Victor Glover, commander Reid Wiseman, and mission specialists Jeremy Hansen and Christina Koch – traveled farther from Earth than any human has before.

Glover was the first Black man and Koch the first woman to leave low Earth orbit. Hansen, a Canadian Space Agency astronaut, was the first non-U.S. citizen to reach the moon.
