LA Metro Encourages Folks To ‘Ride The D’

Exciting news for Los Angeles residents as the city’s public transportation railway system will the see first section of the D (Purple) Line extension open on Friday, May 8.

Earlier this year, LA Metro went viral for its sassy slogan (“Ride The D“) promoting the new subway line. T-shirts sporting the slogan sold out in just a day.

Ride The D

Besides being funny, I’m a huge fan of the subway/train system in LA. Super-easy to use and the stations are thoughtfully designed with terrific artwork.

From the official press release:

Service along the 3.9-mile Section 1 corridor includes three new stations: Wilshire/La Brea and Wilshire/Fairfax — which bookend Los Angeles’ famed Miracle Mile — and Wilshire/La Cienega in Beverly Hills.

Each station will have a landscaped plaza at street level, elevators and escalators, wide platforms and are fully ADA accessible. There will be bike parking and easy connections to local bus lines.

The three new stations also have integrated artworks that were commissioned by Metro Art. The museum-quality artworks are prominent, bold and are found at the street, concourse and platform levels of each station.

The idea is to transform infrastructure into welcoming, thoughtfully designed spaces, delivering our riders to the doorstep of some of LA’s most iconic arts and cultural destinations.

Even the Los Angeles Public Library got in on the “Ride The D” joke with this video sketch yesterday.
