Highlights (Lowlights?) From Donald Trump’s ’60 Minutes’ Interview

Donald Trump

Donald Trump’s sit-down with 60 Minutes reporter Lesley Stahl last night provided several eye-brow raising moments for the American public.

Oh goodness, where to begin?

After telling his supporters at campaign rallies that he and Kim Jong Un “fell in love” and that he really gets along great with him, Stahl brought up some of the most notorious aspects of the North Korean dictator’s resume.

When Stahl brings up Trump mocking Dr. Christine Blasey Ford on the campaign trail, asking if he thinks he treated Ford with respect, Trump diverts with a simple, “It doesn’t matter – we won.”

Eventually, Trump could tell the chat wasn’t going well. He finally got snippy telling the veteran reporter, “Lesley, it’s ok. In the meantime, I’m president and you’re not.”

Randy Rainbow Sends Up First Lady’s Hypocritical Initiative “Just Be Best!”

With lightning speed, political satirist Randy Rainbow delivers another winning parody with his take on the Beauty and the Beast showstopper, "Be Our Guest."

With lightning speed, political satirist Randy Rainbow delivers another winning parody with his take on the Beauty and the Beast showstopper, “Be Our Guest.”

Rainbow’s version, “Just Be Best,” is a riff on First Lady Melania Trump’s ironic anti-bullying initiative #BeBest.

Just be best, just be best,
Just be better than the rest,
Put your shiny new self-righteous phony slogan to the test

Last week, in an interview with ABC News, Melania told the world she feels that she is “one of” the most bullied people in the world.

Really…?

Gay Trump-Supporting Lyft Passenger Apologizes For Racist Rant

Robert Ortiz (via PIX11 News)

Last week, I reported on a racist tirade by a gay New Yorker aimed at his Lyft driver.

Robert Ortiz, a gay Trump-supporter, saw his 16 minute racist rant go viral after he called Brooklyn Lyft driver Shawn Pepas Lettman the n-word because Lettman wouldn’t play the music Ortiz wanted to hear.

In the video, Ortiz is seen calling the police and announcing he won’t leave the car until he receives a refund for his $8.01 ride.

Ortiz’s new internet fame led to his dismissal from his job at a local health care clinic.

Now, he’s speaking to the local press saying he’s not a racist and he was just really, really drunk when he went off on Lettman.

“At the end of the day, my actions were unjustifiable,” Ortiz tells PIX11 News. “There’s nothing that I can say behind that to say ‘But this.’ I was drinking. A lot of the stuff that I said I didn’t even remember until the next day.”

“That’s not how I was raised to treat people.,” he continues. “I grew up in the projects, so I just wanna make sure that people understand that I’m not racist – I’m Puerto Rican, I’m from the Bronx, I’m gay.”

But he does still believe he and his friends were “treated differently” by Lettman.

“Like, we know discrimination, you smell it in the air,” he says. “You just know when someone’s uncomfortable with you.”

Ortiz says that since the video went viral he’s received countless threats and hate messages.

At this point Ortiz says he wants to move on from the sad debacle. “I just want to go on with my life. I’m not racist, my actions were completely wrong. I wouldn’t want anyone to speak to the way that I spoke to him.”

He concludes with a straight up apology: “The only thing that I can say is that I’m sorry.”

The Associated Press is reporting that police in Poland used a water cannon and sprayed tear gas on far-right protesters who attempted to stop the first Pride parade in the eastern city of Lublin in Poland.

Rainbow-colored flags and banners were carried aloft for the parade by over a thousand LGBTQ participants gathered Saturday in Lublin as 300 right-wing haters blocked the parade’s path.

Political authorities had canceled the march but Poland’s Court of Appeal overruled the ban on Friday (12 October) due to freedom of assembly laws.

Elizabeth Warren Takes DNA Test Indicating She’s Part Native American, Trump Doesn’t Remember $1 Million Pledge

Donald Trump has been mocking Sen. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts for years over her claim that she is part Native American.

We’ve seen him time after time at campaign rallies refer to her as “Pocahontas.”

He even promised at a July 5 rally in Montana to donate $1 million to her favorite charity if she would submit to a DNA test and prove she’s part American Indian.

Well…

Guess who took a DNA test?

From The New York Times:

There is “strong evidence” that Ms. Warren has Native American pedigree “6-10 generations ago,” according to a document she released from Carlos Bustamante, a renowned geneticist from Stanford University. The error rate is less than one-in-a-thousand, he said.

In releasing a DNA test, Ms. Warren, a Massachusetts Democrat, was rebutting the taunts of Mr. Trump and other conservatives, who have mocked her as “Pocahontas” and claimed she used her heritage to gain an advantage when she was a law professor.

Trump conveniently doesn’t remember any such promise about a $1 million donation.

Let’s go to the video tape:

GOP Sen. David Perdue Snatches Phone From Constituent As He Refuses To Answer Question At Public Event

Sen. David Perdue of Georgia (R)

A Georgia Tech student attempted to ask Sen. David Perdue (R-GA) a question about the upcoming gubernatorial election in November when the senator – a f*cking U.S. senator – snatched the student’s phone out of his hand.

Perdue has endorsed current secretary of state, Brian Kemp, for governor.

This week it was revealed that Kemp has been involved in what appears to be voter suppression of African American voters (folks who wouldn’t be supporting him) for the upcoming election against Atlanta Mayor Stacey Abrams.

From The Washington Post:

Abrams has accused Kemp of voter suppression and of using his current position to try to swing the gubernatorial race in his favor. Kemp has defended his office by saying it was simply complying with an “exact match” state law that requires election officials to put a registration application on hold if there are even minor discrepancies with existing records (for instance, a typo or an extra hyphen in a name).

Polls show the race between Kemp and Abrams is a toss-up.

“Hey, so, uh, how can you endorse a candidate — ”

That was as far into the question as the student got. Before he could continue, Perdue snatched the phone out of the student’s hands, as evidence shows in a video suddenly turned erratic.

“No, I’m not doing that. I’m not doing that,” the senator can be heard saying in the cellphone recording.

“You stole my property,” the student tells Perdue. “You stole my property.”

“All right, you wanted a picture?” the senator replies.

“Give me my phone back, senator,” the student says.

“You wanted a picture? I’m going to give it to you,” the senator continues, ignoring the student’s request. “You wanted a picture?”

“Give me my phone back, senator,” the student repeats.

At this point, the video rights itself again, apparently because the student is reunited with his phone. By then, Perdue is walking away, on a crowded pedestrian pathway.

What would have been wrong with just answering his constituent’s question?

Was everyone doing leg day this weekend? Danny “Tree Man” Jones got through his leg day at the gym, and when you’re as tall as he is, that’s a lot of “legs.”

SNL Cold Open: Kanye West Visits The Oval Office

Last night’s cold open on SNL took on the wild and wacky rollercoaster that was Kanye West visiting the Oval Office this week.

“So in conclusion, 13th Amendment, Chi-Raq, trap doors lead to the Unabomber, male energy, Trump is my dad, Hillary’s a woman and the media needs to start making this President look good,” concludes Chris Redd’s ‘Kanye.’

“I love you Kanye,” Alec Baldwin’s Trump chimed in. “We have a lot more in common than people know. We’re both geniuses, we’re both married to beautiful women and we both definitely have been recorded saying the ‘n-word.’”

Kinda hard to put the skit into words as it pretty much captures the off event.

Voter Enthusiasm Way Up For 2018 Midterm Elections

Three weeks before the 2018 midterm elections, voter enthusiasm is on the rise after hitting its lowest level in half a century in 2014.

A new poll by The Washington Post/ABC News shows 77% of registered voters say they are certain to vote in the midterms versus 65% in 2014.

From The Washington Post:

Enthusiasm is up across almost all demographic groups, but the increases are greater among younger adults, nonwhite voters and those who say they favor Democrats for the House.

Certainty to vote is up 32 points among women younger than 40, compared with 2014. Among men and women ages 18 to 29, it has risen 17 points.

Among nonwhite registered voters, 72 percent are now certain to vote, up from 48 percent in Post-ABC polling in October 2014.

White men without college degrees represent the one heavily Republican group whose certainty to vote is lower than average and has increased less than other groups since 2014. In contrast, white women with college degrees are up 15 points to 88 percent. For white women without degrees, the figure is up 12 points.

Among voters who prefer Democratic candidates for the House, 81 percent say they are certain to vote, up from 60 percent in 2014.

Among those who support Republican candidates for the House, enthusiasm now stands at 76 percent, compared with 73 percent in October 2014.
