Some news items you might have missed: • Washington Post: Roberta Flack, a classically trained pianist who became one of the most popular performers of the 1970s, died today in Manhattan. She was 88. The cause of death was ALS, sometimes known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. The onetime D.C. teacher won back-to-back Grammy Awards for “The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face” and “Killing Me Softly With His Song.” • Keloland: In South Dakota, a resolution that would ask the U.S. Supreme Court to reconsider its stance on gay marriage failed to get through the state House Judiciary Committee Monday. • Instagram: Pedro Pascal (“The Last of Us”) went viral after posting the photo below with the caption: “I can’t think of anything more vile and small and pathetic than terrorizing the smallest, most vulnerable community of people who want nothing from you, except the right to exist.” https://www.instagram.com/pascalispunk/p/DGWiVDeyjSB/ • New York Times: The United Nations approved a resolution today condemning the Russian aggression against Ukraine with 93 nations in favor, 18 against, and 65 abstaining. Sadly, the United States voted alongside Russia, North Korea, and Hungary against the resolution. • X: Hackers ran an AI video this morning on all the TV screens in the HUD building showing Trump kissing Elon Musk’s feet with the caption, ‘Long Live The Real King.’ HUD officials could not figure out how to stop the video from playing, so they ran around the building unplugging all the screens.

• Alabama Reflector: A Republican lawmaker in Alabama wants to expand his state’s ‘Don’t Say Gay’ law to prohibiting ALL grade levels from discussing sexuality or gender identity. So, heterosexual behavior is ok to discuss in high school Health classes but students aren’t allowed to learn LGBTQ people exist? • Netflix: Jane Fonda gave a great speech last night accepting her SAG Lifetime Achievement Award. At the 3:15 mark: “Make no mistake, empathy is not weak or ‘woke.’ And by the way, ‘woke’ just means you give a damn about other people.”
