Out Australian pop artist ANDY (aka Andy Cook) drops his sultry new music video “Can’t Wait,” featuring real-life queer athletes: rugby league legend Ian Roberts and former AFL player Mitch Brown.
The video depicts ANDY as a younger man (played by Tiggy Treloar) exploring his sexuality within the context of contact sports and locker-room settings.
Almost a decade after retiring as a pro Australian Rules football player Mitch Brown came out as bisexual last year, becoming the first-ever AFL player to publicly come out. Brown plays ANDY’s love interest in the video.
Roberts, 61, came out as gay in 1995, becoming the first rugby league player in the world to do so. He plays the oh-so-hard-hitting coach in the video.
Ian Roberts in “Can’t Wait” (screen capture)In creating the track, ANDY told the Star Observer that he sampled his own “intimate sounds” (which he describes as “just SO homosexual”) threading them through football victory chants and the muscular grunting of male contact sport.
He also layered breathing over a heavy beat so the song seems to pant, strain and climax. Paired with easy on the ear vocals and an uber-sexy musical build, the result is an imminently listenable experience.
With impressive visuals and oh-so-erotic sporting themes, the video (directed by Harry Welsh) definitely scores.
