Nancy Mace Wants To Ban Trans Member Of Congress From Restrooms

U.S. Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) is introducing a resolution to ban transgender women from using women’s restrooms in the House of Representatives, even though trans women have been using public restrooms for years. Mace’s issue is the election of Sarah McBride, Democrat from Delaware becoming the first openly trans American to be elected to Congress.

Mace told reporters that she was introducing the resolution specifically because of McBride. McBride “does not get a say in this at all,” said Mace. “She was born a biological male, she should use the men’s restroom. That’s how it should work.” It’s worth noting that Mace’s resolution doesn’t ban trans men from using men’s restrooms. In messages posted to social media, McBride called the resolution “a blatant attempt from far right-wing extremists to distract from the fact they have no real solutions to what Americans are facing.” “We should be focused on bringing down the cost of housing, health care, and child care, not manufacturing culture wars. Delawareans sent me here to make the American dream more affordable and accessible and that’s what I’m focused on,” McBride added.

It’s worth noting that trans women have been using women’s restrooms in the Senate and House buildings as well as the Pentagon and White House for years now – including the first Trump administration. Rep. Nancy Mace has been in Congress for four years, and during those years she’s known that trans women have been using women’s restrooms in federal buildings in D.C. And she never voiced an issue with that. However – now that Sarah McBride will become the first out trans member of Congress, Mace has suddenly developed a problem. If the resolution is passed, the House Sergeant at Arms would be required to enforce it, which sounds like having to police bathrooms.
