Musk Looks To Slash FEMA Budget

Elon Musk is now turning his cost-cutting buzzsaw to FEMA, the federal disaster management agency, according to a report by The Washington Post. The idea of cutting FEMA’s budget and mission amid the recent slew of climate disasters could have big consequences. FEMA has been an expected target since several Republicans accused the agency of withholding aid to red states in the wake of Hurricane Helene. According to the New York Times, FEMA employees — including its CFO — were fired after Elon Musk misleadingly claimed that disaster relief funds were improperly used to house migrants in New York City luxury hotels.

This headline is a wee bit misleading, in that it should say “Musk Makes Up Complete Lie as an Excuse to Strip FEMA Funding and Fire Four of Its Top Employees”: www.nytimes.com/2025/02/11/n…

Red states could be hit the hardest – data shows Texas, Louisiana and Florida received the most FEMA direct assistance since 2015.
