Without a network to broadcast the proceedings plus the ongoing COVID surge, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association announced the winners of the 2022 Golden Globes via Twitter on Sunday night.
Michaela Jae Rodriguez made history as she was honored with the Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series — Drama statue for her role as “Blanca Evangelista” in the final season of Pose. The win made her the first transgender person to win a Golden Globe.
“You talking about sickening birthday present,” Rodriguez shared on Instagram. “To my young LGBTQAI babies WE ARE HERE, the door is now open reach the stars!!!!!”
The nomination alone had already put Rodriguez in the history books as the first trans actress to even be nominated for a Golden Globe in the lead actress category.
Rodriguez then took to her Instagram Stories (captured by Pop Crave) to give the acceptance speech she truly wanted to give.
Number one, thank you Golden Globes. This is for the LGBTQAI, Black, Latina, Asian … the many multi-beautiful colors of the rainbow around the world. This is not just for me, this is for y’all. This is the door that opens up for y’all. Not me, for y’all. There’s going to be so many young individuals — young, talented, thriving individuals — that are going to be able to trail in, storm in the door. This is for y’all.
