With the crucial stop-gap spending bill chaos in the House of Representatives this week, reporters in Fort Worth, Texas, wanted to inquire how longtime Rep. Kay Granger (R) planned to vote. But after several efforts to get a response from her office, reporters from the Dallas Express visited her local office and found it cleaned out and shut down. Acting on a tip from a constituent, the reporters found Granger “residing at a local memory care and assisted living home for some time after having been found wandering lost and confused” in her old neighborhood.

From the Dallas Express:
The Dallas Express team visited the facility to confirm whether Granger was residing there and to inquire about how she planned to vote on the spending bill. Upon arrival, two employees confirmed that Granger is indeed living at the facility.
However, we were not permitted to conduct an interview regarding the current spending debate in the House of Representatives and how or if Ms. Granger planned to vote.
Taylor Manziel who is the Assistant Executive Director for the senior living facility acknowledged to The Dallas Express that “This is her home.”
So, let me get this straight, a GOP congresswoman disappeared for months and was found in a memory care facility?
House Republicans said nothing. Kay Granger’s constituents have gone months without representation and without constituent services. In the meantime, her staff was… — That Gay Guy Candle Co. (@gayguycandleco) December 22, 2024
If you recall, Republicans spent all of July calling Joe Biden “unfit” for office. Meanwhile, Granger, 81, was apparently being checked into a dementia unit. I grew up in Fort Worth and very well acquainted with Granger’s name and history in local politics. Granger was the first woman elected mayor of Fort Worth, and in 1997 became the first Republican woman elected to the U.S. House of Representatives from Texas. She ultimately became the first woman from her party to chair the appropriations committee. Looking back, it turns out Granger’s last vote in the House was in July. Meanwhile, it appears Granger’s staff has been posting regularly on her social media, including a post on Friday congratulating the staff on how excellent they all are.
If Kay Granger hasn’t been seen for six months then why did her Twitter account post these pictures of herself recently?
What’s even weirder is there are no captions to explain these tweets! https://t.co/AsWVEJldJc pic.twitter.com/jaN9nZTG1Q — Poll Tracker (@PollTracker2024) December 22, 2024
Granger had already announced her retirement at the end of this Congress, so she hadn’t been on the campaign trail this fall. With political news focused on the election season, no one in Curiously, Granger was publicly seen in late last month at the unveiling of her portrait in the House Appropriations Committee chambers in Washington. You have to wonder if her staff managed to prop her up for one final hurrah in DC. According to the Dallas Express, Granger and her staff have been and will remain on the taxpayer’s payroll until January 3, 2025.
Rep. Tony Gonzales (R-TX) says he wasn’t aware that fellow Texas Rep. Kay Granger, 81, was reportedly living in a memory care facility while casting no votes in Congress since July, and he’s not sure if leadership was aware either.
