Speaking in Florida, Michele Bachmann assigned political motive to natural disaster as she told a group that recent events like Hurricane Irene were messages to her to cut the federal budget:
“I don’t know how much God has to do to get the attention of the politicians. We’ve had an earthquake; we’ve had a hurricane. He said, ‘Are you going to start listening to me here?’ Listen to the American people because the American people are roaring right now. They know government is on a morbid obesity diet and we’ve got to rein in the spending.”
Bachmann’s campaign later insisted the congresswoman was joking.
The full measure of Hurricane Irene’s fury came into focus Monday as the death toll jumped to 38, New England towns battled epic floods and millions faced the dispiriting prospect of several days without electricity.
Quite the “joking” topic, isn’t it?
Can I say the only good thing about Rick Perry is he will save us all from a Bachmann Presidency…
