Some news items I thought worth your time:
• Huffpost: Indiana Lt. Gov. Micah Beckwith expressed his terror over upcoming Pride Month in a frantic social media post Friday shrieking, “PRIDE MONTH ALERT: The Rainbow Beast Is Coming For Your Kids!”
• Variety: Loretta Swit, who played Major Margaret “Hot Lips” Houlihan on the iconic sitcom “MASH,” died Friday of natural causes at her home in New York City. She was 87. Swit was nominated for an Emmy Award every year from 1974-83, winning twice (in 1980 and 1982).
• LGBTQ Nation: A PBS-affiliated television station in New York has scrubbed its archives of at least three educational programs concerning transgender identities and drag expression. This comes as Donald Trump is targeting news stations — particularly PBS and NPR — for their allegedly biased criticism of him.
• DC News Now: International pop star Shakira’s WorldPride concert set for Saturday has been canceled due to equipment difficulties.
• Washington Post: Trump announced today that he has fired the director of the National Portrait Gallery, Kim Sajet, calling her a “highly partisan person.” It’s not clear if Trump has authority to dismiss Sajet. since the Gallery’s programming is not under the purview of the executive branch,
• TV Insider: Joy Reid has revealed her new career move after her firing from MSNBC. The Joy Reid Show, a video podcast, will be launched on Monday, June 9, on YouTube.
• Bluesky: Asked about former President Joe Biden’s cancer diagnosis today, Donald Trump’s response was a sharp pivot from the “best wishes” he expressed in a May 18 social media post. “If you feel sorry for him, don’t feel so sorry, because he’s vicious…I really don’t feel sorry for him.”
Trump on Joe Biden, who recently announced a cancer diagnosis: “If you feel sorry for him, don’t feel so sorry, because he’s vicious … I really don’t feel sorry for him.”
