The Department of Justice and Hunter Biden (President Biden’s son) have reportedly reached an agreement for him to plead guilty to two misdemeanor tax charges and an agreement regarding a separate gun charge.

From the New York Times:

Mr. Biden will plead guilty to misdemeanor counts of failing to pay his 2017 and 2018 taxes on time and agree to probation, the court filing said. The deal would most likely resolve the investigation without Mr. Biden serving a prison sentence.

The Justice Department would charge Mr. Biden but agree not to prosecute him in connection with his purchase of a handgun in 2018 during a period when he was using drugs. The deal would be contingent on Mr. Biden remaining drug-free for 24 months and agreeing to never own a firearm again.

Hunter Biden’s deal — which includes admitting he illegally possessed a handgun because he was addicted to drugs at the time of purchase — includes his entry into a diversion program, a common alternative to incarceration. First-time offenders, especially those not accused of committing acts of violence, are often sent to such programs.

The agreement must still be approved by a federal judge.

Following the announcement of the plea deal, the president and first lady issued a brief statement: “The President and First Lady love their son and support him as he continues to rebuild his life. We will have no further comment.”

Of course, the far-right is already screaming about Hunter getting a “sweetheart” deal. But several legal experts are stating that these are charges that are rarely prosecuted. I know a few years ago I was late filing my taxes. Once I caught up and paid the late taxes and penalties, it was done. Hunter has reportedly done just that.

And numerous officials say tens of thousands of Americans, out of the 25 million who buy guns each year, lie on their forms and are not prosecuted.

It’s worth noting that David C. Weiss, the U.S. attorney who led the years-long investigation into Hunter Biden, was appointed by President Donald J. Trump in 2017 and was retained by the Biden administration to continue the inquiry.

Also – Hunter Biden is not and has never been an elected official or represented the U.S. in any official manner. BUT – Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump negotiated a $2 billion windfall from Saudi Arabia while working IN the White House.
