Hunter Biden Found Guilty On All 3 Gun Charges

A jury in Wilmington, Delaware, spent three hours deliberating before finding Hunter Biden, son of President Biden, guilty on three felony counts of lying on a a federal firearms application almost six years ago. The case revolves around Hunter buying a handgun on October 12, 2018. Having been a drug addict off and on for some years at that point, Hunter checked a box on the federal application form indicating he was not using drugs at the time he purchased the gun as he had just completed a stint in rehab. But witnesses, including his former wife and a former girlfriend, testified that, although they didn’t see him use drugs during the 11 days he owned the gun, they said they saw him use drugs a LOT.

The prosecutors also used Hunter’s own words from his 2021 memoir “Beautiful Things” against him. In the book, Hunter shared his journey from being addicted to getting clean and sober. Along the way, he included vivid passages that the prosecutors read to the jury about his drug use before sobriety. Hunter faces up to 25 years in prison, although many legal experts say first-time offenders who didn’t use their firearm to commit any violent crimes often receive no jail time. President Biden has made a point of staying out of the case and has already stated that he would not pardon his son if he is found guilty. UPDATE: President Biden has issued a statement from the White House saying he accepts “the outcome of this case and will continue to respect the judicial process.”

More from the New York Times:

A substantial percentage of those accused of lying on a federal firearms application, as Hunter Biden has been, are not indicted on that charge unless they are also accused of a more serious underlying crime, current and former law enforcement officials said.

Most negotiate deals that include probation and enrollment in programs that include counseling, monitoring and regular drug testing.

“It is rare as a stand-alone,” said John P. Fishwick Jr., who served as U.S. attorney for the Western District of Virginia from 2015-17. “These charges are usually brought against convicted felons who illegally possess a gun or who commit a violent or drug-related charge.”

Hunter still faces serious tax charges in Los Angeles based on his failure to pay the federal taxes over four years during his time as an addict. The back taxes have since been paid. That trial is scheduled to start in September. Given the result of this trial, I’ll be interested in seeing how MAGA world spins Hunter’s guilty verdicts when they’ve yelled from the rooftops that President Biden has been manipulating the Justice Department for his own whims. Hunter was just found guilty, and Donald Trump’s three other cases have been delayed past the upcoming election. So, the President must really suck at rigging the system.
