Back in 1998, the citizens of Hawaii passed a state constitutional amendment that banned same-sex marriage. Today, lawmakers in the Aloha state are in the process of approving House Bill 2802, which will ask voters to rescind a provision in the Hawaii Constitution that gives the Legislature the authority to limit marriage to opposite-sex couples. Marriage equality advocates are hopeful, as HB 2802 passed the Senate 24-1. Article 1 Section 23 was approved and put into the state constitution in 1998 after 69% of Hawaii voted in favor of it. https://twitter.com/CivilBeat/status/1777923484657791177
