Grammy winner Gloria Gaynor has said in the past she doesn’t like to be very “political,” but according to FEC records, the singer has donated heavily to several MAGA Republicans in recent years.

In 2017, during Trump’s first term, Gaynor, during an address at the Library of Congress, stated, “I’m really not a political person so I’m not about to really become political,” but noted “a lot needs to change” and began speaking about righteousness, unselfishness, concern for the less fortunate, and civic responsibility.
Then something changed in 2023. Gaynor’s giving, according to FEC records, suggested the entertainer has become very political in 2023-2024, having donated multiple times to right wing candidates and groups totaling nearly $22,000.
Donald Trump recently named Gaynor a Kennedy Center Honoree sparking some controversy among some of the singer’s LGBTQ fans, who have long-embraced her song “I Will Survive” as a symbol of resistance and empowerment.
Ana Navarro, co-host of The View, has publicly urged Gaynor to reject such an award “from the hands of a man who has attacked the rights and history of women, people of color and LGBTQ.”

Although there is no public record of Gaynor endorsing or supporting Trump, unfortunately, her past comments about the LGBTQ+ community have been problematic.
The Christian singer has refused to confirm if she thinks being gay is wrong. She was previously asked about how she feels about being a gay icon, to which she responded: “I feel good about it because I feel it is a platform for my purpose, which is to bring the love of Christ to all of my fans. Because they trust me, I think.”
Asked if she has a religious opposition to homosexuality, she said: “I want to lead them [her fans] to Christ and what he has for them. I want to lead them to him, I want to lead them to truth.”
