In a wild and wide-ranging X space chat, truth-challenged out Rep. George Santos (R-NY) says he believes he is going to be expelled from Congress when an expulsion resolution comes up again in the House – likely in the next week. “I’ve done the math over and over, and it doesn’t look really good,” Santos told journalist Monica Matthews who hosted the X space chat. https://twitter.com/AndrewSolender/status/1728240954015105331 This all comes in the aftermath of a blistering House Ethics report that accused Santos of fraud, stealing from his campaign and falsifying campaign and personal finance reports. Since the release of the report, dozens of Republican House members now say they will vote to remove him from office. https://twitter.com/axios/status/1728422808516964488 From Axios:
Santos said he is “not going to resign” because “[if] I resign, I admit everything that’s on that report.”
Santos said he will defend himself “to the end of time,” criticizing the Ethics Committee probe as biased and goading Chair Michael Guest (R-Miss.) to “stop being a p***y” and force a vote on his expulsion resolution.
Rep. Robert Garcia (D-Calif.) joined the space and urged Santos to make a “direct apology” to voters and resign because “we’re going to vote to expel you George.”
Santos threw out wild allegations against unnamed colleagues in an effort to cast his alleged extraordinary wrongdoing as the norm.
During the X space chat, Santos declared Congress is “felons galore” and filled with “people with all sorts of ‘shysty’ backgrounds.” He accused his colleagues (who he referred to as “a bunch of hypocrites”) of extramarital affairs, getting drunk with lobbyists and then missing votes due to hangovers, and handing out voting cards like “candy” to allow others to vote on their behalf. https://twitter.com/AndrewSolender/status/1728248748671934911 He also dubbed himself the “Mary Magdalene” of Congress, referring to the devoted follower of Christ present at his crucifixion. Santos characterized the current mood in the House as, “We’re all going to stone this motherfucker because it’s just politically expedient.” In regard to life after expulsion, Santos says he would run for public office again although not in New York, and not any time soon. “I’d love to be an ambassador one day,” Santos added. “I speak multiple languages, I’m well-traveled, I’m cultured.” https://twitter.com/AndrewSolender/status/1728244001629937827 Beyond the ethics issues and possible expulsion, Santos also faces nearly two dozen federal criminal charges including wire fraud, money laundering and theft of public funds, to which he has pleaded not guilty.
