Gaetz Introduces Motion To Vacate To Oust Speaker McCarthy

Far-right Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) has introduced a ‘motion to vacate’ the office of Speaker of the House in an effort to oust current Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA). Gaetz threatened to do so on Sunday following McCarthy allowing a “clean” continuing resolution (CR) in the House to continue funding the federal government for six weeks. Gaetz and his bunch wanted huge spending cuts attached to any CR. The next step is for House leaders to schedule a vote on the resolution within two legislative days. There are procedural motions that could slow down or stop the process. But if the resolution comes to the House floor for a vote, it would take a simple majority of the House — 218 votes, when no seats are vacant — to remove McCarthy from his post. https://twitter.com/keithboykin/status/1708983388722589836 McCarthy has responded on X (formerly known as Twitter): https://twitter.com/SpeakerMcCarthy/status/1708988205603627286 Gaetz apparently has a personal grudge against McCarthy because he allowed an ethics investigation to happen looking into allegations of child sex trafficking by Gaetz. Some say McCarthy may use the results of that investigation as grounds to expel Gaetz from Congress. https://twitter.com/OccupyDemocrats/status/1708532597478072639
