Dolly Parton Announces Expansion Of Imagination Library Of Kentucky

International superstar Dolly Parton performed her iconic songs “Coat of Many Colors” and “Try” on Tuesday afternoon at the Lyric Theatre and Cultural Center in Lexington celebrating the expansion of the Imagination Library of Kentucky.

From the Courier-Journal:

Her performance was to celebrate the statewide expansion of the Imagination Library of Kentucky, a program that mails monthly free books to children under 5 years old. Gov. Andy Beshear and First Lady Britainy Beshear hosted the event that drew more than 500 people.

The program, which started more than 20 years ago in Henderson County, is now available in all 120 counties in Kentucky. Britainy Beshear said /the library has already delivered more than six million books to Kentucky children, including Parton’s own children’s book, “Coat of Many Colors.”

The Imagination Library started in 1995 and distributed only to children living in Sevier County, Tennessee, where Parton grew up. Now it’s expanded across other states and countries, including Australia, Canada and the United Kingdom.
