Democrats Extend Winning Streak On Election Night

Last night was quite the night at the polls as Democrats extended their winning streak in states across the country. Here are just some of the highlights: • Deep red Kentucky reelected Democrat Gov. Andy Beshear to another term. He won his first election by just four-tenths of a point in 2019. Last night, he scored a 5-point win over his Republican opponent. It’s worth noting that amid all the anti-LGBTQ legislation going on in states, Beshear has been reelected even after vetoing an anti-trans bill and becoming the first Kentucky governor to attend an LGBTQ rally. My two cents: Beshear is only 45-years-old. In four years, when the Democratic presidential field is wide open, it’ll be hard to resist a 49-year-old, two-term Democratic governor from a deep red state who scored a 5-point margin on his reelection night. Just saying… https://twitter.com/nytimes/status/1722261406131830853 • Ohio voters overwhelmingly approved referendums that will write a woman’s right to abortion into the state’s constitution (56% to 43%), and legalize recreational cannabis (57% to 43%) becoming the 24th state in the U.S. to do so. • Virginia Democrats flipped the state’s General Assembly and kept control of the state Senate. Republican Glenn Youngkin was hoping GOPers would snatch control of the state legislature, but failed bigly. Also newsworthy – Virginia state Del. Danica Roem (D-Manassas) won her race for the state Senate becoming the state’s first transgender senator. https://twitter.com/ErinInTheMorn/status/1722071004497793199 • Democrats returned their majority on the Pennsylvania Supreme Court to 5-2. Democratic Superior Court Judge Daniel McCaffery defeated Republican Montgomery County Court of Common Pleas Judge Carolyn Carluccio. The race could directly impact the 2024 presidential election since the court frequently handles election cases. • Democrat Gabe Amo became the first Black person to represent Rhode Island in the U.S. Congress. https://twitter.com/brontyman/status/1722239981631209908 • Moms for Liberty, the far-right “parental rights” group which advocates an agenda of banning books, opposing racially inclusive policies, and pushing anti-LGBTQ messaging, had a very bad night in several states. In Minnesota, all four candidates put forward by MfL lost their races for the Rosemount-Apple Valley-Eagan School District. In Iowa, MfL lost 12 school board races. In Pennsylvania, all five candidates in Central Bucks mentioned in a “voter’s guide” from the group lost. And in Virginia, three of four candidates endorsed by the group are trailing in their races in Loudoun County, where Democrats were projected to hold the board. https://twitter.com/randyslovacek/status/1722132376401371380
