The 2026 Golden Globe Award nominations have been announced with “One Battle After Another” scoring the most nods with nine nominations.
TRR favorite “WICKED: For Good” is in the mix with Cynthia Erivo (Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy) and Ariana Grande (Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role in any Motion Picture) being recognized in separate acting categories.
Erivo’s nod makes Golden Globes history as she’s the first Black woman to earn two nominations in the lead actress (comedy or musical) category.
Prior to today’s announcement, only 12 Black women had been nominated in the Globes’ comedy/musical actress race. And only one Black woman – Angela Bassett for her 1994 portrayal of Tina Turner in “What’s Love Got To Do With It” – has ever taken home the prize.
Erivo’s fellow nominees include Rose Byrne (“If I Had Legs I’d Kick You”), Kate Hudson (“Song Sung Blue”), Chase Infiniti (“One Battle After Another”), Amanda Seyfried (“The Testament of Ann Lee”) and Emma Stone (“Bugonia”).
The film also picked up two song nominations for composer Stephen Schwartz: “No Place Like Home” and “The Girl In The Bubble,” and will compete for Cinematic and Box Office Achievement.
This comes after the movie musical smashed box office records, grossing $226 million global opening weekend making it the biggest debut for a musical adaptation ever.
Fans are shocked, though, at “WICKED: For Good” being snubbed in the Best Musical or Comedy category.
The 83rd Golden Globes ceremony, hosted by comedian Nikki Glaser, will air on January 11. See the full list of nominations here.
