Donald Trump And Univision Kiss And Make Up Over Miss USA Pageant

Republican front runner Donald Trump and Spanish language network Univision have come to a meeting of the minds regarding ongoing litigation between the two over the network’s move to not air the pageant last year.

Univision made it’s decision after Trump called hispanics “drug addicts” and “rapists” during his campaign launch.

From Talking Points Memo:

Trump had sued the broadcaster for $500 million after it severed ties with the businessman and refused to broadcast the pageant. The terms of the settlement were confidential, according to a news release.

“I have known Univision’s President and CEO, Randy Falco, for more than 20 years and I’m glad we are able to put these differences behind us,” Trump said in a statement.

Falco had a similar response.

“I have known Donald Trump for many years in both a personal and professional capacity and we are pleased to settle this matter and move forward,” he said in a statement.

Congressional Black Caucus Endorses Hillary Clinton For President

As the Democratic race for 2016 presidential nomination leaves a mainly white electorate in Iowa and New Hampshire and heads into more diverse campaign territory (Nevada, South Carolina), former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton gets a big boost from the Congressional Black Caucus today.

From CNN:

Hillary Clinton earned a key endorsement on Thursday, when the Congressional Black Caucus political action committee backed her over Democratic presidential rival Bernie Sanders.

“One of the individuals that has been with us time and time again has been Hillary Clinton,” New York Rep. Gregory Meeks, chair of the Congressional Black Caucus Political Action Committee, told CNN’s Carol Costello on “Newsroom.” “She has been, her whole career, an individual that has been fighting for issues that are important to the African-American community.”

Meeks called endorsing Clinton “the right thing to do.”

“Black folks are not dumb. They come out for individuals that have their best interest at heart,” he said.

“We must have a president who is knowledgeable on both domestic and foreign policy,” said Butterfield, chairman of the Congressional Black Caucus. “We must have a president who understands the racial divide, not someone who just acquired the knowledge recently.”

“We need a president who doesn’t simply campaign and promise wonderful things — things that are politically impossible to achieve,” he added.

Music Video: Lana Del Rey “Freak”

Lana Del Rey drops this dreamy, LSD-inspired music video for “Freak,” featuring furry Father John Misty’s J. Tillman. “Freak” is the latest single off the singer’s 2015 LP Honeymoon.

From Stereogum:

The saga begins with the two musicians hiking out to the wilderness to drop acid and literally drink the Kool-Aid, and the rest is an impressionistic haze of sensuality. Fittingly, things delve into actual impressionism in the second half of the 11-minute clip, as Lana’s song ends and Claude Debussy’s “Clair de Lune” comes on to soundtrack the women from the “Music To Watch Boys To” video cavorting around underwater.

Fully half of the music video is a floaty, underwater swim set to Debussy’s famous tune.

At a Los Angeles screening of the music video last night, Father John Misty admitted that the acid-themed video was partially inspired by an LSD experience while attending a Taylor Swift concert in Australia.

Anti-Government Rancher Cliven Bundy Taken Into Custody At Portland Airport

Cliven Bundy

It looks like the Bundy militia’s face-off with the federal government may be coming to an end this morning as the last four militants have apparently indicated they will surrender themselves at the Malheur National Wildlife at 8AM this morning.

And a bonus – Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy, who was traveling to Oregon to assist/take part in the standoff, was arrested and taken into custody last night.

From The Oregonian:

Cliven Bundy, the Nevada rancher who touched off one armed showdown with federal authorities and applauded another started in Oregon by his sons, was arrested late Wednesday at Portland International Airport and faces federal charges related to the 2014 standoff at his ranch. […]

He faces a conspiracy charge to interfere with a federal officer – the same charge lodged against two of his sons, Ammon and Ryan, for their role in the Jan. 2 takeover of the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge in Burns. He also faces weapons charges. The Bundy Ranch Facebook page reported Cliven Bundy was surrounded by SWAT officers and detained after his arrival from Nevada.

Two years ago Bundy led an armed confrontation against federal agents over his failure to pay over $1 million in fines for grazing his cattle on protected lands.

It looks like the feds were just biding their time, waiting for the right opportunity to arrest the errant rancher.

Hopefully this whole “Bundy militia” episode can just end here.

Marco Rubio Blames The Media For His Fifth Place Showing In New Hampshire Primary

After finishing a disappointing fifth place in the New Hampshire Republican primary last night, Sen. Marco Rubio blamed the media for his crushing loss.

Appearing on Fox News today, Rubio said that because the media did it’s job and reported on, among other things, his “crash and burn” performance at the GOP debate Saturday night, folks didn’t want to vote for him.

Via Politico:

“What happened is obviously Saturday night the debate went the way it went, and then just the media coverage over the last 72 hours was very negative about it and so forth,” Rubio said Wednesday on “Fox & Friends.” “So the last thing voters heard going into the booth yesterday was, you know, something bad happened Saturday night. And so it made it very difficult for us to get any other message across.”

Rubio was excoriated following Saturday’s debate after Chris Christie called the Florida senator out for his “memorized 25-second speech” — a line Rubio used several times in the debate about how President Barack Obama “knows exactly what he’s doing” and vowed to keep using on the trail despite the harsh criticism.

Many have predicted that last night may be the beginning of the end of Rubio’s career in elective politics. He has stated he does not plan on running for reelection for the U.S. Senate this fall.

Sen. Bernie Sanders Raises $5.2 Million In One Day After Winning New Hampshire Primary

Bernie Sanders’s presidential campaign notched a big win in New Hampshire on Tuesday, and by Wednesday night it had a different kind of victory.

From the time the New Hampshire polls closed on Tuesday to mid-afternoon Wednesday, Sander’s campaign brought in $5.2 million.

According to sources within the campaign, the average donation was $34.

In claiming victory in New Hampshire, Sanders asked his supporters to take part in a country-wide campaign event and DONATE!

Looks like they did.

SiriusXM To Cancel LGBT Channel OutQ

Michael Musto is reporting over at OUT that SiriusXM’s lone LGBT station – OutQ – will end this Friday.

Last June, Sirius OutQ — SiriusXM Satellite Radio’s LGBT channel — bid farewell to the Derek and Romaine show after 12 years of news and banter.

Well, that was just the tip of the gay iceberg. I hear that as of this Friday, the channel is deader than the animals worn by Sir Elton John.

Tragically, they’re canceling the whole thing! Funnyman Frank DeCaro’s show is being forced to end after, yep, 12 years. (Fortunately for DeCaro, he has a burgeoning career as a writer and comic and has been opening for Lisa Lampanelli all over the place).

Meanwhile, though Morning Jolt host Larry Flick is staying aboard, they axed his sidekick Keith Price and are moving Larry to their EW Radio channel. And even some non OutQ gays are being shown the door. Lance Bass’s show on Radio Andy (Andy Cohen’s channel there) is bye-bye-bye, baby, ain’t no lie.

I originally subscribed to SiriusXM for the programming on OutQ.

I couldn’t stomach Derek and Romaine (I once called in and Derek hung up on me mid-sentence), but enjoyed Frank DeCaro, Larry Flick and Michelangelo Signorile (before his show was moved to the Progress channel).

I listen to SiriusXM’s CNN and MSNBC streams during my drives to and from LA from Vegas, so I’ll continue to subscribe.

But I’m sad to see the end of something what that should have thrived. Clearly there wasn’t enough traffic to justify the expense on SiriusXM’s part.

LOGO TV leaves the LGBT programming behind, and now SiriusXM does the same.

I wonder if it’s another case of LGBTs not supporting their own? Should they? Should they not? Leave your comments below. I’d love to know what you think.
