Meme Of The Day: “Come Get Me”
NOM Attacks Donald Trump For Not Being Anti-Gay Enough
The folks over at the National Organization for Marriage have the odd idea that they are relevant in some way today.
They’ve launched a new attack ad, titled “Dump Trump,” directed at GOP front-runner Donald Trump that basically says the Trumpster doesn’t hate on gays enough.
In an email (that includes at least NINE requests for donations), NOM president Brian Brown writes:
As the ad makes clear, when Donald Trump quit on the fight for marriage, he quit on South Carolina and over 50 million voters across the nation who cast ballots defining marriage as one man and one woman. The ad urges South Carolinians to “Dump Trump.”
Keep in mind that the marriage amendment passed in South Carolina with 78% of the overall vote. However, it likely got upwards of 90% of the vote among Republicans who will be voting for president on February 20th. Clearly, the ad could cause some serious damage to the Trump campaign and thus help propel forward other pro-marriage candidates like Sen. Ted Cruz.
Hillary Clinton: “I Am Not A ‘Single-Issue’ Candidate”

We don’t live in a single-issue country. If we solved our problems with Wall Street and campaign finance reform tomorrow, we’d still have discrimination and barriers holding too many Americans back. We need to tackle all of those problems, too.

Hillary Clinton used her closing remarks at last night’s debate to add a new layer her campaign’s message: “I am not a single-issue candidate.”
We don’t live in a single-issue country. If we solved our problems with Wall Street and campaign finance reform tomorrow, we’d still have discrimination and barriers holding too many Americans back. We need to tackle all of those problems, too.
I think this could be the right focus for her campaign. As strong and passionate as Sen. Bernie Sanders is on income inequality, his skills and abilities past that issue trails off in comparison to Hillary Clinton.
I thought last night’s debate was strong for both candidates. I don’t think anything was said that would sway one candidate’s supporters to the other side, but it was substantive and positive for both.

City of Cleveland Drops Chasing After Ambulance Charges For Tamir Rice
Cleveland mayor apologizes, drops Tamir Rice’s ambulance charge: https://t.co/rSUa2ajTYX pic.twitter.com/UCh2OvxJSA— MSNBC (@MSNBC) February 12, 2016
From MSNBC:
Cleveland’s mayor and other city officials apologized Thursday for asking for reimbursement from Tamir Rice’s family for the medical services he received after he was fatally shot by a police officer.
But Tamir’s family wasn’t buying it, calling the incident “deeply disturbing.”
The claim, filed Wednesday in probate court, sought $500 for the ambulance ride and treatment provided to Tamir, the 12-year-old boy who was shot by Cleveland police in November 2014 while in possession of a pellet gun.
Tamir’s family on Wednesday slammed the city’s “callousness, insensitivity and poor judgment” in sending the bill.
“I want to start off again apologizing to the Rice family if this, in fact, has added to any grief or pain that they may have,” Mayor Frank Jackson said at a news conference Thursday.
City Finance Director Sharon Dumas said the city never actually billed Tamir’s family for the medical services and has no intention of doing so.
She and Richard Horvath, the city’s chief corporate counsel, said the claim filed Wednesday was a “routine” result of the probate process, in which Tamir’s estate asked for a billing statement for services rendered to identify any potential creditors.
FiveThirtyEight Looks At The Terrain Going Forward For Clinton, Sanders
The polling/stats geniuses of FiveThirtyEight took a look at what the polls show in terms of upcoming primary challenges in the Democratic race for the presidential nomination.
As the competition moves into more diverse terrain, Sen. Bernie Sanders looks like he will need to up his game in terms of diversity.
From FiveThirtyEight:
Polling has indicated that Sanders trails among nonwhite voters by nearly 40 percentage points nationally. Although no reliable recent polling is available in Nevada, Clinton leads by 30 percentage points in both of our South Carolina forecasts. In the latest Marist College poll, she’s buoyed by a 74 percent to 17 percent lead among black voters. Sanders must cut into that margin if he wants to have any chance in South Carolina or anywhere in the South.
You could already see how Sanders might have problems in Nevada and South Carolina even as he was crushing Clinton in New Hampshire. Despite winning the state by more than 20 percentage points, the best Sanders could manage among registered Democrats was a tie. His large margin came from registered independents who voted in the Democratic primary. You must be a registered Democrat to vote in the Nevada caucuses, though you can register as one the day of the election. In 2008, 81 percent of Nevada caucus-goers self-identified as Democrats. Just 58 percent of New Hampshire voters on Tuesday thought of themselves as Democrats.
Indiana Gov. Mike Pence Can’t Answer Simple Question On LGBT Rights
Indiana Gov. Mike Pence still can’t answer “yes” or “no” to the question: “Should Indiana LGBTs be able to be fired just for being who they are?”
From Freedom Indiana:
Indiana Governor Mike Pence has never been able to answer the question of whether he believes LGBT Hoosiers should be fired for who they are. Time after time, he has dodged the question of why he does not support comprehensive non-discrimination protections for LGBT people. Take action with Freedom Indiana and call for comprehensive LGBT-inclusive non-discrimination here.
He is, however, very quick to pivot to the “religious freedom” of Hoosiers to be able to discriminate, isn’t he?
