Donald Trump Has Lowest Net Favorability Of Any Recent GOP or Democratic Nominee

Donald Trump’s net favorability rating is lower than that of any recent GOP or Democratic nominee.

From the New York Times:

Mr. Trump has become unacceptable, perhaps irreversibly so, to broad swaths of Americans, including large majorities of women, nonwhites, Hispanics, voters under 30 and those with college degrees — the voters who powered President Obama’s two victories and represent the country’s demographic future. All view him unfavorably by a 2-to-1 margin, according to a recent New York Times/CBS News poll.

“There is no precedent for this,” said Neil Newhouse, a veteran Republican pollster. “In the modern polling era, since around World War II, there hasn’t been a more unpopular potential presidential nominee than Donald Trump.”

Stan Greenberg, the longtime Democratic pollster, released a survey Friday summing up Mr. Trump’s vulnerabilities under the headline, “Earthquake?” Mr. Trump trails Mrs. Clinton by 23 points among women in Mr. Greenberg’s poll, suggesting the possibility of a gender gap of historic proportions. (The Times survey last month had Mrs. Clinton leading by 20 points among women.) The largest gender gap in the last 36 years was Bob Dole’s 11-point loss among women against Bill Clinton in 1996.

SNL Cold Open: Donald Trump v Woman

You know how when you watch cable news shows during the presidential election cycle and the candidate’s surrogates and supporters simply can’t see or acknowledge ANY fact that is less than flattering about their candidate?

Last night’s SNL cold open featured “Scottie Nell Hughes” (Cecily Strong) defending comments by “Donald Trump” (Darrell Hammond) about women to CNN’s “Kate Bolduan” (Kate McKinnon).

North Carolina: Asheville Rally Displays Support & Opposition For HB 2

Photographic journalist Max Cooper covered today’s rally in downtown Asheville, North Carolina, as groups of haters and pro-LGBT folks voiced their support/opposition of the recent HB 2, which gutted LGBT rights in the state.

The folks from anti-LGBT organization Keep NC Safe Coalition rolled out a huge banner which allegedly displayed the mugshots of trans people. No crimes were listed, and I’m not really sure what the exercise was meant to prove – if you’ve been arrested you don’t get to use the bathroom ever again? No cisgender folks have ever been arrested?

At one point during Cooper’s Twitter coverage, he noted the folks who oppose the anti-LGBT legislation outnumbered haters 3 – 1.

New Music: Pet Shop Boys “Burn”

From The Pet Shop Boys new album, Super, “Burn.”

In reviewing the latest from Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe, the iTunes store says the album “highlights middle-age’s continued failure to blunt their edge.” I would say I strongly agree with that.

The tracks sound current and relevant, and easily on par with any other new synth-pop out there today.

Definitely sounds perfect for a Saturday by the pool.

You can check out all of the tracks from the album at the duo’s YouTube channel here.

The new album is available everywhere – check it out on iTunes here.

Anti-LGBT Law In North Carolina May Put Federal Funds At Risk

North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory

In the aftermath of the passage of North Carolina’s virulently anti-LGBT law, HB 2, the Obama administration is now considering whether the legislation makes North Carolina ineligible for federal funds to the tune of billions of dollars for education, highways and more.

From the New York Times:

Cutting off any federal money — or even simply threatening to do so — would put major new pressure on North Carolina to repeal the law, which eliminated local protections for gay and transgender people and restricted which bathrooms transgender people can use. A loss of federal money could send the state into a budget crisis and jeopardize services that are central to daily life.

Although experts said such a drastic step was unlikely, at least immediately, the administration’s review puts North Carolina on notice that the new law could have financial consequences. Gov. Pat McCrory of North Carolina had assured residents that the law would not jeopardize federal money for education.

The North Carolina law created a mandatory statewide anti-discrimination policy, but it did not include specific protections based on sexual orientation or gender identity. The law prohibits transgender people from using public bathrooms that do not match the sexes on their birth certificates.

The Departments of Housing and Urban Development, Education and Transportation have all confirmed to the NY Times they are reviewing whether the new North Carolina law would risk currently funding.

NY Times To Sanders: It’s Time To Engage In Some Citizenship

Pointing out that the math is simply not on Bernie Sanders’ side, the New York Times’ Paul Krugman suggests it’s time for Sanders to not drop out of the race just yet, but perhaps exercise some common sense and citizenship:

The first thing to say is that it’s still very unlikely that Sanders can win the nomination. Don’t tell me about national polls (and cherry-pick the polls that show your guy getting close); at this point it’s all about delegate counts, where Clinton has a substantial lead with the voting more than half over. The Times’s Upshot has a nice calculator that takes account of what we know about demographic factors – Sanders does well in very white states and in caucuses, not so much elsewhere – and lets you experiment with various overall leads in what remains of the race. To overtake Clinton in pledged delegates, Sanders would need to win by about a 13 point margin from here on in.

First, the Sanders campaign needs to stop feeding the right-wing disinformation machine. Engaging in innuendo suggesting, without evidence, that Clinton is corrupt is, at this point, basically campaigning on behalf of the RNC. If Sanders really believes, as he says, that it’s all-important to keep the White House out of Republican hands, he should stop all that – and tell his staff to stop it too.

[snip]

Oh, and the Sanders campaign is saying that it will try to flip superdelegates even if it loses the unpledged delegates and the popular vote. Remember when evil Hillary was going to use superdelegates to steal the nomination? Double standards aside, what makes the campaign think that he will get any backing from a party he refuses to lift a finger to help?

North Carolina: Mexican Restaurant Pescado’s Burritos Makes Bathrooms Unisex For All

While the new, anti-LGBT law HB 2 in North Carolina instructs private business owners that they may have to “police” their bathrooms to make sure patrons who use them access the “biologically correct” space, Mexican restaurant Pescado’s Burritos in Brevard, North Carolina, has chosen to address the issue by making both of their patron’s bathrooms unisex.

We have UNISEX bathrooms because sometimes gender specific toilets put others into uncomfortable situations.

And since we have a lot of our friends, community members, and family members coming to see us, we want to provide a safe and comfortable place for everyone, including: Dads with daughters, Moms with sons, Parents with disabled children, Those in the LGBTQ community, Adults with aging parents who may be mentally or physically disabled.

THANK YOU for helping us to provide a safe environment for EVERYONE!

The two bathrooms are each “one person” non-gender specific, so no matter which a patron uses it’s all good.

Of course, all around the world businesses have learned to do this. I don’t know why more businesses don’t do this.

The response on Facebook has been overwhelmingly positive. Bravo, Pescado’s Burritos!
