Dave Franco Gets Gay Proposal In Bad Neighbors 2

Earlier this month Dave Franco revealed that his character, Peter, in Bad Neighbors 2 is gay, and he was “so excited” to play him.

Yesterday, the movie’s Facebook page shared this honestly very charming scene where Franco’s character gets engaged during a poker game with his buddies.

Via Attitude:

The video starts with Zac Efron, Franco and friends playing a game of poker before Jimmy (Franco’s boyfriend) goes all in.

Peter then asks, “What do you got, a full house?”

Jimmy replies with “Hopefully one day,” before Efron and friends start singing a rendition of I’m Yours by Jason Mraz which just so happens to be the couple’s song.

Jimmy proposes to Franco, saying “The Greeks believed we were each half of a whole. Peter, you are the half that makes me whole.”

“I don’t know what the rules are, I don’t know who is supposed to propose to who,” Jimmy adds.

Peter says yes and the pair hug it out as their friends celebrate.

Scientists Succeed In Removing HIV From Living Tissue For The First Time

Way exciting development in the world of HIV research.

From the Independent:

Scientists have managed to remove DNA of the HIV virus from living tissue for the first time in a breakthrough that could lead to an outright cure. At the moment, treating the disease involves the use of drugs that suppress levels of the virus so the body’s immune system can cope.

Now researchers in the US have revealed they used gene-editing technology to remove DNA of the commonest HIV-1 strain from several organs of infected mice and rats.

In April, the same team reported that they had successfully eliminated the virus from human cells in the laboratory, but a paper in the journal Nature Gene Editing revealed they had managed to do the same thing in live animals for the first time.

The researchers’ team leader, Professor Kamel Khalili, of Temple University, said: “In a proof-of-concept study, we show[ed] that our gene-editing technology can be effectively delivered to many organs of two small animal models and excise large fragments of viral DNA from the host cell genome.”

George Zimmerman’s Gun Sells For $250,000

Reuters is reporting that George Zimmerman, who shot and killed unarmed teenager Trayvon Martin in 2012, has successfully auctioned off the gun used in the killing for $250,000.

His offer to sell the Kel-Tec PF9 9mm handgun on UnitedGunGroup.com drew praise from gun rights supporters and scorn from critics who accused him of seeking to profit from the 17-year-old’s death.

In a statement on Twitter after the bidding closed on Wednesday, United Gun Group defended its decision to host the auction and said it would have no further comments.

On his own website that day, Zimmerman said the auction had “raised funds for several worthy causes.” He has said he would use proceeds to counter violence against law enforcement officers by the group Black Lives Matter and to fight Democratic presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton’s “anti-firearm rhetoric.”

I highly doubt Zimmerman will donate all of the proceeds to charity. I’m sure he counts himself as a “worthy cause.”

Trailer: “Star Trek Beyond”

Not many details of the film are public as yet.

All folks know (from this trailer, at least) is that the movie picks up a few years into the Enterprise’s five-year mission to explore the galaxy and something has gone wrong.

An unknown enemy attacks the ship, destroys it, and sends the crew scrambling for their lives on the surface of the nearby planet.

Release date: July 22, 2016

Dallas Mavericks Owner Mark Cuban “Open” To Being Hillary’s VP Pick

Never gonna happen, but it would be an interesting twist.

From ESPN:

Though Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban said he doesn’t have the time to run for President of the United States, he thinks he can find the time to serve as potential Democratic Party candidate Hillary Clinton’s vice president.

In an excerpt of an interview that will air on Sunday’s “Meet the Press” on NBC, Cuban was asked if he would listen if the Clinton campaign came to him offering the vice presidency.

“Absolutely,” Cuban responded while adding that he would seek to alter some of Clinton’s platform were he to become her running mate.

“If she’s willing to listen, if she’s willing to, you know, hear other sides of things, then I’m wide open to discussing it,” Cuban said.

His hypothetical interest in being the country’s next veep comes a week after Cuban told The Washington Post that a group of conservative politicians had asked him to run as a third-party candidate in this year’s presidential election.

The band of Republican politicians, according to the Post, were attempting to block presumptive GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump and believed that Cuban would resonate with voters.

Like Trump, the 57-year-old Cuban is a billionaire with a reality television show.

Although he said he would “put [Trump] in his place,” Cuban told the Post that he does not anticipate running for president this year, saying “there isn’t enough time.”

Asked later by ESPN.com if he would consider running for president four years from now, Cuban replied, “No comment.”

It’s estimated that Cuban is worth in the neighborhood of $3 billion.

Happy Birthday Cher!

Today we celebrate the 70th (!) birthday of the all-fab Cher!

From her first #1 hit back in 1965 with then-hubby Sonny, “I Got You Babe,” Cher has been breaking down barriers for decades.

As a matter of fact, she’s had Billboard Top 10 hits spanning four decades. OR – six decades if you count her hits on the Billboard dance charts. Check out her amazing catalogue of music on iTunes here.

Truly the stuff legends dream of.

Here’s just a few of my video favorites over the years.

My ultimate Cher moment captured for the ages: when Cher reluctantly sang “I Got You Babe” with Sonny at the request of David Letterman on November 14, 1987. The magic showed up again – just look at Sonny’s face. Clearly, he was still in love.

Check the 2:19 mark when Sonny puts his arm around Cher’s waist. Such a natural connection between the two.

Today Marks 20th Anniversary Of Historic “Romer V. Evans” Ruling For LGBTs

Lambda Legal celebrates the 20th anniversary of historic U.S. Supreme Court ruling on Colorado’s Amendment 2, Romer v. Evans:

The infamous Amendment 2 prohibited the state and its political subdivisions from providing lesbians, gay men and bisexuals any legal protection against discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation. It was a reaction to the efforts by several Colorado municipalities to enact anti-discrimination ordinances to protect their LGB residents.

[snip]

When decided, Romer v. Evans was the single most positive Supreme Court ruling in the history of the gay rights movement. The Court’s ruling made clear that lesbians, gay men and bisexuals have the same right to seek government protection against discrimination in the United States as any other group of people.

The decision also marked a new level of legal respect for LGBT people and rejected the notion that it is legitimate for the government to discriminate against gay people based on moral objections to homosexuality. It is a precedent whose influence can be traced through every momentous subsequent decision, and it informs our work today as we fight back against continuing efforts to enshrine discrimination. Indeed, faithful application of the controlling principles enunciated in Romer requires that the preemption provisions contained in North Carolina’s HB2 likewise be found unconstitutional.

Today, as we look at the challenges in front of us, we reflect on the 20 years of precedent at our back and take comfort. We’ve been here before, we handled it then, and we’re committed to continuing to protect LGBT people, now and in the future.

CBS/New York Times Polls Shows Hillary Clinton Leads Donald Trump

According to the latest CBS/New York Times poll, Hillary Clinton now holds a six point lead (47% – 41%)  lead over Donald Trump, down from 10 points a month ago.

From CBS:

Contentious primary contests on both sides haven’t turned off many primary voters from voting for their party’s candidate in a likely November match-up between Trump and Clinton, even if these candidates are not their preferred primary choice.

Seventy-one percent of Republican voters who did not support Trump in the primaries would still vote for him against Clinton.

On the Democratic side, 72 percent of Sanders supporters would vote for Clinton against Donald Trump.

Real Clear Politics aggregates all current polls for the current presidential season here.

It’s worth noting that while Trump has seemingly clinched his nomination for the Repubs, Hillary continues to fight on two fronts – Trump for the general election, and a tenacious Bernie Sanders who continues to spar for the out of reach Dem nomination.

Christian Activist: Hillary Clinton “Needs To Be Put To Death” For Being A Witch

JoeMyGod points to this lovely display of “good Christian love” from anti-LGBT activist, Ted Shoebat:

“We need judges who uphold the death penalty for evildoers,” he said. “We need judges who would uphold the death penalty for those, not just murderers, obviously murderers deserve death, I think most people would agree with that. But you also have other people who deserve the death penalty, not necessarily murderers; people who are involved in witchcraft, who promote witchcraft. Witchcraft is very, very dangerous, very demonic and look how much destruction it has caused in the United States.

“Look at Hillary Clinton. That’s a witch that needs to be arrested and put to death. Most definitely. As the scriptures says, I believe in Leviticus, ‘Thou shall not suffer a witch to live.’ Homosexuals also need to be put to death, because it is evil, it is demonic and it is against human nature.”
