Sen. Elizabeth Warren To Meet With Hillary Clinton Today

First, there was Sen. Elizabeth Warren’s blistering take-down of Donald Trump yesterday afternoon.

That was followed by Warren’s full-throated endorsement of Hillary Clinton for president last night on the Rachel Maddow Show.

Today, the Washington Post reports that Warren will be meeting with Clinton:

Elizabeth Warren and Hillary Clinton will meet privately Friday morning, according to two knowledgeable Democrats. The sit-down, coming just hours after the Massachusetts senator formally endorsed the presumptive Democratic nominee, will fuel speculation about her prospects as a potential vice presidential pick.

The women have had several conversations over the past month, including one that lasted around half an hour, sources told The Washington Post. The conversations were broad and focused on large topics and issues, rather than the nitty-gritty of the campaign. Their staffs have been engaged in more tactical discussions.

The two women do not have a particularly deep relationship, but that could change as Clinton rallies Democrats around her in the wake of winning the Democratic nomination in recent days. There were three big endorsements that could have meaningfully helped Clinton wrap up the nomination battle: Warren, President Obama and Vice President Biden. Clinton secured all three on Thursday.

Senate Minority leader Harry Reid is pushing hard for Warren to be Hillary’s veep pick.

I have to say, the speech yesterday afternoon was absolutely vice-presidential “attack dog” material.

Colton Haynes Responds To “The Real O’Neals” Noah Galvin’s Criticism On Coming Out

Noah Galvin

Yesterday, I posted about an interview The Real O’Neals star Noah Galvin gave to Vulture wherein he was surprisingly negative about other gay men in the entertainment industry in LA, including Colton Haynes, who’s recent coming out in an EW interview he called “pussy bullshit.”

“That’s not coming out,” Galvin said. “That’s fucking pussy bullshit. That’s like, ’Enough people assume that I sleep with men, so I’m just going to slightly confirm the fact that I’ve sucked a dick or two.’ That’s not doing anything for the little gays but giving them more masturbation material.”

Colton Haynes

Last night, Colton responded to Galvin asking “since when did he become the judge of what’s appropriate?”

Galvin has since issued this apology to Haynes:

“To Colton Haynes and to the LGBTQ youth, especially those who have embraced our show, I have no right to dictate how or when anybody comes out of the closet; I know how difficult and scary the process of coming out can be, and the last thing I would ever want to do is make it scarier.”

Sen. Elizabeth Warren Endorses Hillary Clinton For President

Sen. Elizabeth Warren speaking to Rachel Maddow tonight:

“I’m ready. I am ready to get in this fight and work my heart out for Hillary Clinton to become the next president of the United States — and to make sure that Donald Trump never gets anyplace close to the White House.”

Warren’s endorsement comes on the same day that President Obama officially offered his own unequivocal support to the former Secretary of State.

“The Real O’Neals” Star Noah Galvin Has Some Strong Opinions

The Real O’Neals openly gay star Noah Galvin raised lots of eyebrows with some brash statements in an interview with Vulture.

About Arrow star Colton Haynes:

“That’s not coming out. That’s fucking pussy bullshit. That’s like, enough people assume that I sleep with men, so I’m just going to slightly confirm the fact that I’ve sucked a dick or two. That’s not doing anything for the little gays but giving them more masturbation material.”

About X-Men director Bryan Singer:

“Bryan Singer likes to invite little boys over to his pool and diddle them in the f—ing dark of night,” he said, laughing. “I want nothing to do with that. I think there are enough boys in L.A. that are questionably homosexual who are willing to do things with the right person who can get them in the door. In New York there is a healthy gay community, and that doesn’t exist in L.A.”

About Eric Stonestreet of Modern Family on the same network as his own show:

“I think as wonderful of an actor as Eric Stonestreet is — I’ve never met him, I assume he’s a wonderful guy — he’s playing a caricature of a caricature of a stereotype of stereotype on Modern Family. And he’s a straight man in real life. And as hilarious as that character is, there’s a lack of authenticity. I think people — especially young gay kids — they can laugh at it, and they can see it as a source of comedy, but like, nothing more than that. And I want Kenny to be more than the funny gay kid.”

UPDATE: Someone got a phone call or two from ABC execs and more.

Galvin just released this statement retracting his attacks on Bryan Singer, Colton Haynes and Eric Stonestreet:

“I sincerely apologize to Bryan Singer for the horrible statement I made about him in the interview I gave to New York Magazine,” read the statement. “My comments were false and unwarranted. It was irresponsible and stupid of me to make those allegations against Bryan, and I deeply regret doing so. I have never been to Bryan’s house, and I admit there is no basis for any of the things I said or implied about Bryan in that interview. I understand now that my statements were not at all funny and have serious implications. I am very sorry and I hope that Bryan and everyone else who read that interview can forgive me for my serious lapse in judgment. I have contacted New York Magazine and the other publications that republished my statements and asked them all to print this retraction and apology.”

“The entire interview I gave to Vulture has hurt the LGBTQ community and the industry I feel truly fortunate to be a part of,” the statement goes on. “My only intention was to try and empower and promote honesty, but I fully understand that comments I made were brazen and hurtful. To Colton Haynes and to the LGBTQ youth, especially those who have embraced our show, I have no right to dictate how or when anybody comes out of the closet; I know how difficult and scary the process of coming out can be, and the last thing I would ever want to do is make it scarier. For anyone. Lastly, as I said in the interview, I think Eric Stonestreet is a wonderful actor. I apologize to everyone that I’ve hurt with my comments and understand the damage that has been done. I am new to this and will certainly commit to being more thoughtful and wiser as I navigate all of this moving forward.”

4th Circuit Court Of Appeals Denies Stay Motion On Transgender Rights Ruling

A three-judge panel from the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals just denied the stay motion, by a vote of 2-1, filed Wednesday by Virginia’s Gloucester County School Board, which seeks to ignore the federal government’s mandate on transgender student rights.

That filing two days ago had triggered an automatic stay on the pro-trans April order while the Court considered their demand.

Equality Case Files has today’s ruling. The Fourth Circuit Court has jurisdiction over Virginia, West Virginia, South Carolina, and North Carolina.

North Carolina’s anti-LGBT legislation HB2 could be struck down via this case.

Stay tuned.

Florida Congressional Candidate Comes Out As HIV+

Bob Poe, former state Democratic party Chair and currently running for Florida’s 10th Congressional District, shared with the public an (until now) private part of his life: that he is HIV+.

From the Orlando Sentinel reports:

Poe, 61, said he was diagnosed with the virus that causes AIDS in 1998 and is currently in good health. He revealed the diagnosis in an interview with Watermark magazine as well as a video posted to his Facebook page. “I have a motto in my life: If you want to make a difference, you have to be the difference,” Poe said in the video. “And so today, I’m trying to be that difference in this community, so that we can begin to solve this problem once and forever.”

In an interview, Poe said he felt compelled to reveal his diagnosis after encountering a recently diagnosed HIV positive woman while canvassing in District 10. “She told me that she’s recently been diagnosed with HIV and thought she had a death sentence,” Poe said. “I really just wanted to hug her and let her know that I, too, have HIV and that I’ve been able to live out all of my hopes and all of my dreams, and she could, too.”

Poe hopes to be an advocate for HIV prevention in Congress, but he has other focuses as well. He supports a $15 an hour minimum wage; job training to help Americans adapt to a changing work environment; and wants to work to change the criminal justice system to be more fair .

“I’m fired up and I cannot wait to get out there and campaign for Hillary.”
